Guest guest
A little boy once went to a telephone booth while he was at a store and dialled a number after asking the store owner. The store owner who was observing the boy listened to the conversation between the boy and the person on the other side. The boy had called a lady who had hired him to mow the grass at her lawn. The boy did not reveal his identity to the lady. He told her he had called to ask if she could employ him to mow the grass in her lawn to which the lady said she already had a person who does the job. The boy tried his persuasion skills by telling her he would mow it at half the price to which the lady refused. So he said he will not only mow the grass but also sweep the floor and the stairs of the house for the same pay. Yet the lady refused by saying that she was extremely satisfied with the person who was doing the job and she was not looking at hiring anyone else. With a smile on his face, the little boy replaced the receiver. The store-owner, who was listening to all this, walked over to the boy. He appreciated the boy about his positive attitude. He even sympathized and offered to give the boy a job at his store. The boy just replied with a thanks and said he didnt want the job. The store-owner, totally surprised, asked him why he refused when he was pleading for the job to the lady he had called. The store owner was very impressed with the excellent reply the boy gave him. The boy said " No Sir, I was just checking my performance at the job I already have. I am the one who is working for that lady I was talking to! " The boy knew he was good at his job but here all he did was checked with his employer if she also thought he was an Excellent Performer! He was self-analyzing his level of excellence which most of us fail to measure thinking the employer would anyways appraise us during timed appraisals. So are you self appraising yourself ? " Excellence is not always being perfect but about excelling in what you do in the best way you can.
