Guest guest
Hi welcome to the group. I am new here myself. But do find there is alot of info and suport with online groups such as this one and others. Take life as it comes with CMT you never can tell what is going to be happening too you later in life. It may never change from where you are at right now. And like some one else said don't hit the booze hard like I did as well. ttyl
Guest guest
Dear Bethany, How are you? Hope everything is fine with you. I have CMT and I go to another country to pursue PhD (13 hours airplane travel time). I think CMT doesn't have negative effect on learning and studying. For studying, what we need is concentration and focus our mind on what we learn. When we get focused, CMT and pain disappear. This logic is the same as practicing zen meditation. When we focus on meditation, the negative consciousness disappear. For campus enviorment, I think most campus have some facilities and resources that can help you live and study with CMT adn enjoy your college life with CMT. If the campus is very big, such as Indiana university, you can take campus bus and the bus will take you to all the classroom buildings. It the campus is small, such as USC, you can walk to classrooms. Also, you may ask school office to help arrange a dorm that is near campus and thus you don't have to walk a long way to classroom. Be brave to pursue your dream and fully utilize and enjoy your life. CMT is one part of our life, beside CMT, we still have many things to do and enjoy. Guest guest
Hey Bethany, Welcome to the group. My name is Liz. I'm 22, but I was diagnosed with CMT at 5. I just finished college. I went to the University of Kentucky and I majored in Animal Science. I now work at a magazine in NH (where I grew up)... and... as of two days ago... got accepted to Northeastern University to begin studying for my Masters of Journalism part time. Don't worry about college or getting around. Arrangements can be made. I got a handicapped parking permit, so I could drive everywhere right up to class. It made things a lot easier (I practically started a taxi cab service for my friends too. ) Anyway, I'm more than happy to talk to you about college stuff if you are nervous. I was scared to death when I started and it ended up being the time of my life. Liz
Guest guest
Hi Bethany, My name is Malinda. I am 30 years old and I have CMT type 3. I was diagnosed at 6 months old. I graduated from Tennessee Technology Center in 2002. I'm a certified Pharmacy Technician. I decided to go back to college in January 2004. I'm a Junior and my major is Biology/ Pre Pharmacy. I attend University of Memphis.I plan to go on to Pharmacy school and become a Pharmacist or Pharmacologist. I would like to hopefully develop a drug to help CMT and Muscular Dystrophies. I have experienced some additional stress since I've been in college. My CMT has progressed too. I have learned to rest more. When I first started college, I had a killer schedule. I only got 3 hours of sleep at night. I was driving home from class and my vision got really blurred. I thought I was going to have a seizure. I now rest. I also park closer to class and I use a power wheelchair to avoid the long walk around campus. I love it though! If you have any questions, email me.
