Guest guest
Hi folks. As I've explained elsewhere, I have CMT and I am an aquatic therapist (licensed occupational therapist) and swim instuctor with more than 30 years professional experience in aquatics and a lifetime of personal experience as a competitive swimmer and a person with CMT. I've done workshops for local folks with CMT and now I'd like to do a workshop for CMT ers everywhere. I've taught and coached swimming since 1970 and have practiced aquatic therapy since 1984. I've been a Red Cross certified Water Safety & Lifeguarding Instructor continuously since 1970. So I've worked with literally thousands of clients. Aquatic therapy is not a cure all, unfortunately, but it can truly be the cornerstone of your health and fitness program, bringing strength, flexibilty, pain relief and stress relief. I'm considering doing a two or three day aquatic workshop and retreat for folks with CMT...either in a few months or next fall or winter...if there is sufficient interest. I'm in Jensen Beach, Florida, 45 minutes north of the West Palm Beach Airport. We're 10 minutes from the beach in a neat little town. This would be held in my own backyard pool. I have an occupational license and run my practice, SwimRx, out of my home. I also have a hot tub and a nice, relaxing yard and porches. There are nice motels and fun restaurants in the area and there is room in my home for a few folks who might not be able to afford motels. This would be a therapeutic workshop. The cost would be reasonable and those of you who have insurance should be able to use it if your doctor will prescribe a few sessions of aquatic therapy for you. Everyone would go home with an individualized program that could be carried out independently. This would not be a general aquatic exercise class but an individualized program involving some group sessions and some private sessions utilizing appropriate swimming and water exercises tailored to your wants and needs. Non-swimmers would go home as swimmers if they choose. Average swimmers will go home knowing how to swim other strokes especially helpful for CMT much more proficiently. I would then remain available to you for updates to your program via phone or e-mail. Additionally, this would be a supportive and enjoyable gathering. Other treatments such as massage could be made available as well. This would be open to people of all ages. I would advertise this nationally. What do you think, folks? Are any of you seriously interested? Deni Gillespie
