The antibiotic is to clear up that sinus & /or throat infection caused by the

flu, they have no effect on the flu itself, being caused by a virus, not

bacteria germs. It's so early in the season she probably doesn't want to

call out the big guns just yet, in case you'll need stronger antibiotics

later.

I know what you're saying. At a time like this, all you want is comfort

food, something that goes down nice and easy and fulfills the dictionary

definition of " food " . You don't care if it's a 1000 calorie burger and fries

or a 250 calorie chicken dinner - you just want fast and soft because you

can't taste it, anyway, and it hurts to swallow. Just don't eat *too* much

high calorie comfort food or you'll hate yourself when this flu is finally

over.

Well, we won't be going back to *this* mechanic. A few hours after I dropped

the car off he called to say we needed new tires. Sorry, fellow, but they're

only 3 years old and we can't afford new ones now, anyway. When I picked the

car up yesterday evening, the lady in the office tells me there's a notation

on the bill that besides new tires I need a new radiator, that they found a

pin hole leak when they flushed it. Strike 2 - the ground under our car has

always been bone dry, and we check fluid levels weekly and never have had to

add any anti-freeze into the radiator.

Oh, and the tires look just fine, with normal wear and nice deep treads that

will get us through the winter with no problem, as long as there are no bliz

zards like last year. Then, even if our city allowed chains we wouldn't try

move the car, anyway.

I agree, Kim. I just said to Ed this morning that I have to stop eating all

that pasta and cheese, that I *have* to get back on McDougall's, whatever

the cost. I feel achy, my sinuses feel like they're clogged with cement, and

my morning blood sugars are going up too high (I hit over 100 twice

already!) and dropping too low during the day on the days I *don't* eat my

usual oatmeal and fruit for breakfast.

The problem is, the foods I *shouldn't* have are just so darn tasty!

Ann has her sweet tooth, but I crave that pasta and cheese. I think I

remember that you like your sweets, too. We just have to find healthier

alternatives, and avoid those trigger foods.

Tomorrow is going to be hard for just about all of us. Those on FoodMover

will have too many choices and too much of *everything* available; people on

low-carbs/right carb food plans will look at the stuffing made with white

and/or cornbread and shrug their shoulders and dig in; people on low-fat

vegan plans (like me) will see that lasagna made with full fat cheese and

white flour pasta and gobble it down, rationalizing that at least it's not

turkey.

Will we regret our choices come Friday morning, when we all have our bellies

stuffed and we're nursing a pumpkin pie hangover? Yeah, probably.

But we'll shake it off, wipe the cranberries from our chin, and pull out our

food journals, our FoodMovers, our rice makers, and get right back on our

chosen food plans. We'll already know what meals we'll be making with any

leftovers, and we'll work it all into our plans. We'll know we already had

our share of the desserts so we'll leave the rest of them to the people we

live with, or just take enough of the ones that our food plans allow.

By Monday morning, all traces of Thanksgiving dinner should be out of our

houses and we'll all be back in our food plans full swing. We'll all be

re-starting with you, Kim. Well, except for those truly stoic souls out

there who *are* sticking very closely to their food plans over the holiday

weekend. I salute you ladies who have the strength and determination to do

that. :)

I don't know about the others, but I miss seeing your Malt-O-Meal listing

every day. And I'm sure you can find more positive affirmations, or even a

Happy Thought, to write. Like Pan, we know you can fly as long as you

hold on to those happy thoughts.

Oh I was actually kind of suprised she gave me anything at all to be

honest. I was expecting her to tell me it was viral and that

antibiotics woundn't help, so I am greatful for that. I'm still

feeling miserable, not that I didn't expect to, I was just hoping

that I would be feeling a smidge better by today. I've got lots of

cooking to do and little ambition to do it.

gotten out of her. When I had bronchitis this past spring I ended up

seeing the pulmonologist because she couldn't get me in. In the past

when they couldn't get me in I just lived with it, but it never

dragged on like this has.

No, this was my internist that I just saw the one that put me on

oxygen is my pulmonologist, then I have my ob/gyn and my gyn/onc,

opthamologist, optomatrist, podiatrist and it seems like there are

more, but I can't remember ;) LOL.... Anyhow I see the

pulmonologist on 12-9 because my asthama was flared up, but with this

crud it actually appears to be better... go figure.

Well, yes and no. I can't breath out my nose at all, this means I

can't taste anything which means food sucks! I enjoy my food the

taste is most important, and if I can't taste it why bother eating

it? My throat hurts too much to want to swallow anything anyways. I

had Mac and cheese the other night and even that was uncomfortable

going down as was the spaghitti the night before that. Today so far

I've had one bowl (2 packets) of oatmeal and that's it. I guess it's

a great way to lose weight though. I'm down agan to 363 so that is

6lbs since Friday. I'm sure alot of it is water weight as I have

been having a hard time getting alot of fluids in. It hurts my ear

and throat to swallow them so it isnt' fun.

Oh speaking of tires I desperately need new ones on my car. I have

had the car since my MIL died since it was hers, and I know she never

had the tires changed since my FIL died and that was in 1996 granted

the car only has 55,000 miles on it (1990 ford tempo) but the tires

are getting bad, we keep saying maybe for this gift or that, but we

never seem to have the money to do it. Hopefully soon though, I hate

driving any distance with it (more then 6-12 miles one way) and I

don't like taking it with the girls, so I end up with one of the

other vehicles. I'm glad your tires aren't that bad though :)

Hummm have they never heard of stop leak? LOL... that is what we

use when needed! It does sound like they are searching for reasons to

do more repairs though, so I guess I wound't be back there either. I

had a mechanic like that, but not for long!

LOL... Actually I don't know how difficult it will be for me I mean

if I can't taste it I'm not likely to eat that much. I'm sure the

rest of you will have a difficult time though. Here I'm wishing I

could breathe/taste and you are all probablly wishing you couldn't.

I think we will all be there. I guess my thinking on it is that it

is only one day a year, don't deprive yourself because in the end you

will feel worse about being " on a diet " and more likely to fall off.

Eat what you want to eat, try your hardest to moderate, but don't

miss out on something you truely desire. Friday is another day,

another day to get back on track and start weighing and measuring and

exercising.

Me too! I know there is no way I could (if I were healthy ;0)

Well, i finished the day but eating a 1/2c. mashed potatoes, 1c. barbeque no

sauce and green beans..im sure there is NO way to be close to 2000cal.

today...

As usual, I struggle to get moving. It isn't so much a physical

thing as it is just an inability to " do " . I have profound laziness.

It is in my " head " so to speak. And my doc would say, yep, that is

your MS.

In the past year, my youngest moved into her own apartment. She was

the last of my 3 to " leave " and is in school just 30 minutes away.

I think I suffer from " empty nest " . My oldest is in Med school, and

my middle daughter is working and employed...degreed in graphic

design.

All three of them are " unaware " of anything with me at all. For

Christmas, I tried to get them to come with " friend " to a family

dinner...nope, they only allowed 60 minutes of their time in the

holiday to spend exclusively with their mom and dad. Then we were

all off to my childhood home to celebrate. They were very pleased

with their 'gift giving' and the little bit of contact they had. I

am disappointed. I didn't really put much emphasis on what they

would do. I prepared myself for their lack of attention, I knew it

was coming. At the same time, yeah, it hurt.

Can I tell you I was the " #1 mom " ? I sang and crafted and dragged

them to any number of activities as they grew. Never beat them, or

cut them down. Never ever. So, yeah. I am struggling with their

rude behavior.

I don't know why I shared this with you all except that I need some

encouragement as I requested yesterday. I'm trying to lift myself

up...but it is hard. I don't go out much. It takes too much

energy.

I feel the same as , . That's very hard for a woman who's put her all

into her children. I know if mine were older and I were in your position, I

would probably feel crushed. I'll pray for grace for you to endure and that

your children will come to recognize what's really important in life.

No one can hurt us more than those we pour our love

into. I'm so sorry that you are feeling the pain but

realize on your childrens parts they are now

demonstrating what they beleive to be grown children

behaviour. Remember when they were around 2 and the

most common phrase was, " No! I do it myself. " I'm

sure they want you to see that they can stand on their

own and don't have to have you so much in their lives.

It means you've really done a good job, mom! I know

I've been there. Now the next step in learning about

their independence is knowing that mom is a person as

well as all the other rolls she has been in their

lives. Also, when they relegate so little time to her

she is wounded by them and when they realize they

could have made her heart soar with joy with a little

more of their time they will adjust and return the

love that has been freely given. But be warned mama,

what they give and feel is full is never enough and

you will go through many more changes as they advance

in years and with their children growing up. Then as

you watch them and see the love to their children you

will also see the hurt as they are the ones who are

being left behind. Their thoughts and time will

return to that first love in their lives who taught

them how to love and give freely. Who nurtured them

and kissed their booboos. They will feel love and a

comradarie that they have never known before. As they

hit those times when their children unknowingly hurt

them they will, once past their pain, perhaps remember

how they did with their mama. and the circle is

complete. It isn't the pain you will remember it is

the communion of like circumstance and the compassion

for grieving that you have learned and the forgiveness

that you will extend if you have gone the full circle

and let go of your pain. After all, isn't that what

being a mom is all about? From conception through

death giving and giving until you can give no more.

Isn't that the vehicle of love? Not the pain isolated

but the cycle renewed with hope and filling the need

of the one who carries forth your banner of love.

You have my empathy and now you must focus once again

to pledge to love with no strings attached. Other

wise it wasn't love given freely. It becomes a cage to

hold someone bound and strings to puppet them around.

Hi ,

Thanks for sharing your life with us. I truly sympathize with you, although I

cannot empathize!! I have never been married and have never had children. I am

nearly 56 years old, so I am well past the childbrearing years. Maybe it is a

good thing for me that I never had kids, as I have never had the pain and

dissappointment that they bring their parents when and after they come into this

world!!! I am sure that you thank God that you have your kids, though, despite

all of the disappointment and pain they give you!!! Anyway, we must all live

the lives that God gave us, and we must all try to find the good, wholesome

things that happen in both our lives and our children's lives, and focus and

concentrate ONLY on them!!! That is the only we to be happy, isn't it?
