Guest guest
Hi Darrell, I'll add my two bits worth to Gretchen's information. Hereditary Motor-Sensory Neuropathy Type II, (HMSN) and CMT type II are the same thing -- It used to be called HMSN more often in the UK, but now they call it CMT also. Actually, HMSN is more descriptive of our syndrome, but CMT is more " catchy " I guess. There at least 40 types, but there are genetic tests for just a few of them. There is no genetic test for the CMT type II that I have. IF the doctor or technician knows how to give and read an EMG, it should tell if you have axonal deterioration (type II). Family history is important to diagnosing, too. Here is a site to learn about diagnosing: http://www.geocities.com/dgosling_rn/diagnosis.html the rest of the site may be helpful, too. http://www.geocities.com/dgosling_rn/index.html http://cmtnews.com is also helpful.
