Guest guest
I have some pretty funky KAFOs. My orthotist used me as a guinea pig to try these things. They have a hinge at the ankle so it isn't totally rigid. They sat in my closet for about 1 1/2 years until I became desparate for support. I bought athletic shoes that are 1 1/2 to 2 sizes to big for me and I only use them with my KAFOs. I'm even to the point where I can hike in them. The choice is no hiking or hike with KAFOs. I can't live without my walks I don't wear them everywhere (yet?). I find that they help me to save energy on very busy days. When I wear them, I have more energy and less stiffness the next day as well. I would imagine that if they don't fit right you will never wear them. My orthotist took time and made adjustments. From what I hear you have to be a squeaky wheel to get them to fit. I'm not thrilled at having to wear them, but I think they have improved the quality of my life. Guest guest
> I wear the hard plastic AFOs. What is a KAFO???? A KAFO is a Knee-Ankle-Foot-Orthosis. It is similar to your AFO with knee joints and a thigh section added. A KAFO can be necessary if knee instability too great to control with an AFO is a problem.
