Hi Heidi

I had both my feet done, one at a time of course. I didn't

like the fact that i needed a cast up to my knees. They said

the reason was that my ankles were too week to have the short

casts. It was so worth the surgery, I can hardly see the scars

on my big toes and only one toe curled back and I can live with

that.

I would suggest doing it in the summer for sure. they put metal

pins in your toes and a screw in your big toe. I had one done

in the summer and I was fine (hurt a little) but the other I

had done in the winter and man that was cold I always had a

cold chill in my foot and the pain would shoot up to my hips.

Heidi,

This is a delayed reply re: hammer toe surgery and anesthesia. The surgeon

should probably be able to use a spinal anesthesia or a block thus you should

be able to avoid general anesthesia which seems to carry some risk for

weakening in us CMTers.
