Hello everyone!!!!!!!

I was just diagnosed with CMT in January 2003. I " knew " something was wrong

with me but had no clue as to what. I had always been a clumsy child and had

" many " sprained ankles and falls. So when my feet started losing sensations

I " thought " it was due to all the sprains over the years. As my hands and

arms started losing sensations I " thought " it was due to pinched nerves in

my back, (from the falls , naturally). Same with the body pain I experience.

.. thought it was because of the falls. I have always been the type of person

NOT to complain about aches and pains, so as the pain increased I just dealt

with it.

I have never had insurance to " just go " and find out why these thing's were

happening to me, so life as I know it just kept plugging along. Then in

January I ended up having an emergency appendectomy. While there for that

the surgeon came in the next day and asked me what condition I had to make

my hands apathy. I literally had never noticed that the muscles in my hands

were completely gone! He then sent me to a Neurologist and the rest is

history. The neurologist had fun with me also, because not only did I have

CMT and did not know it, but it could not be traced because I was adopted.

A lot has happened since January. I am now on pain medication 3x a day and

walking with a cane " in public " and using a walker at home. My disease seems

to be progressing again. I have noticed over the years (now that I know what

is wrong with me) that this disease takes steps. You are OK for awhile then

it hits and takes you down another notch or two.

Just recently I have found my way to CMT sites with forums and was SHOCKED

to find out how many people have this that are online. I have found a lot of

support from these forums! Actually just finding someone with the same

problems as myself has helped more than anything!!!!! Talking is really good

therapy.

I have not worked since 2000 when I could not walk without constantly

falling (was a CNA) and could no longer lift the residents " safely " . So I

have become a computer junky. My husband works full time and my son will be

a Senior this year. I live " out in the sticks " so drop by company is

non-existent, I no longer drive, so the computer is " my way out " . Anyone

wishing to e mail me PLEASE DO!!!!!!!

Peace & Love - Debi
