By the time I needed balance support my grip was not strong enough

for a cane. I used a ski pole, the type with a leather loop. The

round thing (?) at the tip was removed and a dowel was drilled to

fit over the tip and then a rubber cane foot added. My brother had

the pole and adapted it for me and I used it successfully for many

years. Cheap and lightweight, you can decorate it with any colors

you like. Poles come in different lengths and can be customized for

your needs by the length of the dowell used. Check local thrift

stores, flea markets & garage sales for used poles. They may not be

as classy as some walking staffs but if money is tight it is an

option.
