Guest guest
Today I asked the PT Center Director if he had any special ways to vaccum, as even with my 'new back' the left side muscle can still pull. Of course he had a special way - promptly took me to the center's vaccum, and explained first why people's backs hurt when vaccuming. It is the wierd bending that goes on (even with 'normal' people). Then he showed me how to vaccum like this: standing straight, keeping my arm straight, barely touching the vaccum, and using a forward lunge step, then a lunge step back. Then changing legs. (right, left, right, if you're right handed) In other words, upper body stays erect, legs evenly do the work. I tried it there and it is amazing how different it makes vacumming. Rob explained that it might take longer to vaccum an area this way, but the fact of no stress on back muscles is great. I was sharing this with my aquatics partners, and we added a forward/back lunge step into our routine in the pool. I was also asked to show everyone how to do it. Even 2 women who have no physical situations, were surprized by this. Just thought I would share this with all of you; and tonight all over my town, everyone is happily vaccuming with no back stress! ~ Gretchen
