Guest guest
Hello all, My name is and I have CMT. My father, uncle (both deceased) and son (25 years old) were also diagnosed. I live in South Carolina with a husband, 2 cats and 2 dogs. But grew up in Florida. I knew something wasn't quite right in my teens, but wasn't actually diagnosed until I was 26 (47 years old now). I wear AFOs most of the time, but actually prefer a cane. I began to have some autonomic (heart rhythm) problems about 5 years ago and the doctors still don't agree as to whether it may be caused by the CMT or something else. One thing, however, is that my father and uncle both died of heart failure. Other than the usual balance issues, cold feet, fatigue (I work very part time and take " fun " classes at a local university), I think I manage quite well. Memory is a problem too, but I suppose the fast pace of today's lives might be the primary reason. I recently tried a MDA support group, but felt kind-of out of place as most were the families of Duchenne. I mentioned this to a friend with MS and she directed me to the site. I'm surprised that I hadn't heard of it before. I do get " CMT Today " from Quelph, Canada and it has been interesting. I'm looking forward to meeting y'all (yes, I'm from the South!) ......
