Guest guest
Hi Jerome, I know this wasn't what you were seeking info about, but I'm doubtful that the Atkins diet did it to you. I say this mainly because I've been on it since July 1999 and surely would have developed gallstones too if it caused them. It might be correct that fast weight loss will do it, but sounds like you weren't on the weight loss diet that long. I know I lost 13 lbs. in my first month and then leveled off to an average of 3-4 lbs. per month. Most people do have the most loss in the first few weeks and then slow down because we initially lose a lot of water. Also, I've been visiting a very active newsgroup for over a year and have yet to hear any reports of people getting gallstones from this diet. I say all this since you might be missing the true cause by assuming that it was the diet. Just a thought. It may be too you're more susceptible to it than most people for whatever reason. Just to add, I'm on this list because I'm investigating ways to improve my health in a general way. I don't have any health conditions I am trying to fix. I lost 13 pounds in two weeks then went on a maintenance diet. I certainly suspect that this might be the cause of all my problems. I have come to understand recently that any fast weight loss program can cause gallstones. No one ever mentions that in their hype for quick weight loss. I have had symptoms of gallbladder problems since January 2000. I was having off and on pains in my right abdominal area whiceventually kept me awake at night. I finally went to a doctor in July. Blood tests showed all liver and other functions within normal range. I then had an ultra sound which showed a gaggle of stones in the gallbladder and I was scheduled for surgery. After finding this site and reading all I can about gallstones I decided to cancel the surgery and try some less drastic measures. I haave went through one flush via Dr. s' directions. I passed 200 stones of the waxy cholestrol type. Since this I have changed my diet dramatically and am trying to attend to a more liver friendly diet according to Dr. Cabot in her book on The Liver Cleansing Diet. I am still suffering from weird pains or an awareness of aches in my abdominal area and wonder whether the operation is inevitable. Today I started taking Gold Coin Grass in a hope of softening the stones so they will pass on my next flush in 2 weeks. My question to the experienced is this; If the stones are in the gallbladder to stay, refering to many opinions on the unliklyhood that they will actually be expunged from their prison cell, is it possible to avoid the surgery just by changing diet and keeping them happily contained? I have also ordered the Complete Gallbladder Cleanse from The Colon Health Network. Has anyone else used this regime of flushing?I am the type of person who searches for alternatives , but might overdue it in the process. One thing at a time and be patient might be better axioms. I am just desperate to avoid surgery and get back to feeling great! Changing diet is easy compared to loosing an organ! But is changing diet enough? I am taking flax seed oil, EFA, lecithin, and LSA, lots of water, lots of fruits and vegetables, am I over duing it? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,JeromeYou are receiving this email because you elected to subscribe to the gallstonesegroups. Guest guest
Jerome; I really don't know just what to tell you other than I continue to feel the area of my liver and gallbladder too. I test it by grabbing with my fingers and then push up against the gallbladder and into the liver. I don't have pain when doing this so I then believe it to be in the liver and it's just letting me know it's there. I actually think this is a lot of the times more of an indigestion than the liver or gallbladder acting up, but then there's the other problem of me having eaten a dinner containing fats, the kind like tonight's delicious pizza with pepperoni and onions. I always have to pay twice for it, once at the cash register and then with the tums. I've been following some of the guidelines that Dr. Cabot sets out in her book ,but I mostly I follow it by principle. I really don't go out to eat fat foods like I did years ago, in fact, fat foods don't taste good to me any more. But now I can get away with a lot more than I could last year, when I was in serious trouble with my gallbladder and liver. This year, by following Dr. Cabot's suggestions and information regarding what the liver does and needs to do it, I have yet to have another attack since October of 99. It sounds to me like you too have the sensitivity of where your liver and gallbladder are located. I do too, and it really gets to me when I eat wrong. However, I at least have that grab test to try, to know whether it is indigestion or the liver being a bit upset with the overload. Last year I was diagnosed as having a thickened gallbladder which is indicative of a diseased gallbladder as well as having "A" stone of undetermined size. This was done by an MRI so it was conclusive. I plan to keep my gallbladder too. One thing about having stones is that you have to do a number of flushes to get them out of the liver and the gallbladder, and deposited elsewhere. The diet you're following now will go a long way towards your recovery, but it isn't a quick recovery. It took seven months of a fat free diet for my gallbladder to get back to normal and be reports as such by an ultrasound examination. If I recall I believe I've sent you a copy of a photo of just six of the stones that I was able to get out. If you noticed the one was just over 17 mm in size. So, it's quite possible to get not only that size out but even larger too. I know of one other that had one that was 22 mm in size. that was just 3 mm short of 1 inch. Now I'm not sure as to whether the GCGrass that I took really reduced the size of the "Stone" that I was reported as carrying, but it must have, because I did at least pass smaller stones than the golf ball that I was reported as having. What does it do? I'm too positive it helped, and I don't really need to concern myself with all its properties, and what it really did to the bile or the stones. Guest guest
Hey Jerome, you may also, if you haven't already, try the lemon/olive oil drink in the a.m. Mine consists of a chopped up lemon, juice from one sqeezed orange, 1 T oil, 1 t. maple syrup blended for a minute. Strained. And then also your juice concoction containing beet juice. Mine seems to do better when I incorporate this on a regular basis. I also get wierd pains in the liver area. And itchiness. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jrobb4148@...> <gallstonesegroups> Sent: Monday, August 21, 2000 9:49 PM Subject: Diet for gallstones > Dear readers, > In August of 1999 I went on the Atkins high protein diet. I made and ate a minestroni stew last night from The Liver Cleansing Diet Book, it had lots of veggies, barley, lentles, kidney beans, fresh herbs etc. But, wow was I in misery all night. Maybe I need to go on an all fruit diet for awhile. Each meal I wonder whether something is going to set off the pain on my right upper abdomin and right center at the sternum. I'll try the lemon and oil, thanks. Jerome > >

Guest guest
Hi Jerome: Welcome to the journey of wellness, especially for your gallbladder and liver. It is important to keep a few things in mind as you make this journey... Typically, to develop a healthy gallbladder and liver it takes more than one flush and some time. Remember, it probaly took you 15-30 years to get here, it may take a year or two to get healed. Some of the lucky few, my nanny, a friend and my Mom, took just one flush to cure their problems and pain of many years! Ridding the body of " stones " is not a precise science as your body will react slightly differently each flush. In my six flushes I have had varied results. The first flush produced some great results for me as I went for 9 months without any problems. It usually takes a week or two for my gallbladder to settle down after a flush and feel good. My second and third flushes produced fewer results, but with my fourth flush I hit a goldmine! The stones were not green, they were brownish in color and two huge clumps of 40-50 of them. Cholestorol stones will most likely move out of the body much better and faster than the harder stones. To soften the harder stones will require the appropiate herbs and time to break them up. A changed diet will be essential to regaining the health of your gb and liver. You cannot overdue good eating, EFA's, fruit and vegies, etc.! The better you do in this area, the sooner you will heal! My advice to anyone who is still feeling that gnawing in their upper abdomin... flush again! Wait at least three weeks between flushes as it sometimes takes two weeks to feel the flush results. Remember, pain is your friend as it tells you that you gb is still not feeling well and wants some of your attention! Those who took the flush once and solved their problems are probably not on this site... we are the fortunate few who get to manage the problem perhaps for a lifetime. So far on my journey I will keep my gb and live with my pain. I have 90-120 good days for every bad one... and that works for me. ken
