Guest guest
Hi Quiltlunatic... Your story is similar to mine. I had surgery at age 42, about 12-1/2 years ago. I'm definitely glad I did it. Scoliosis surgery isn't the be all and end all for back pain, but in my case, I have a lot less pain, and I regained a lot of function. If your goals are realistic, you'll have a good chance of a good outcome. I recommend that you read a relatively new book, " Scoliosis Surgery The Definitive Patient Reference " by Dave Wolpert. You can purchase it at http://www.curvedspine.com, or from the National Scoliosis Foundation or the Scoliosis Association. Guest guest
Hi. I'm new to this website also. This is my first reply. Get your back fixed now. I had mine fixed one and one half years ago. I was 42 1/2 yrs old when I did it. I am so thankful to have had it done by Dr. Lloyd Hey @ Duke Medical Center. I can put you in touch with him if you are interested. He is wonderful. I had a 47 degree curvature and my spine had rotated producing a hump on my back(which was my ribs) and my right hip stood out 4 inches further than my left. The because of this, my vertabraes had started shifting off each other. I now have two titanium rods in my spine. Had I not had the surgery I would have been in a wheel chair. I work full time and exercise like crazy. I have few limitations(liftinjg heavy objects and I squat to pick up things because I can't bend completely over). I love this Dr. He is a wonderful Christian man and I now have a new body. Buying clothing is easier and I do everything I want to do. Please feel free to email me. I would be curious as to where you are getting your surgery done. Kindest Regards, Gail (My enter key doesn't allow me to start new paragraphs...sorry) quiltlunatic <quiltlunatic@...> wrote: I knew I had scoliosis (that word was thrown out a long time ago) but I never really did antything about. Guest guest
To the person scheduled for scoliosis surgery in January, this should make you feel better. I had surgery for a 125 degree curve on July 9 and August 4 of this year. I am now straight as an arrow. My only regret is waiting so long to have it done. I had a wonderful doctor by the name of Dr Lenke at Washington U. in St Louis Mo. If I can help calm your nerves in any way you can email me at bichon4me@.... new to this whole whole I knew I had scoliosis (that word was thrown out a long time ago) but I never really did antything about. The constant backaches I thought were being helped by a chiroprator and anti-inflamatory drugs, but this last year I just can't keep up with my life. In june a doctor told me I had a 72 degree curve in the cener of my spine and my spine is twisting to the right. Suddenly I am planning a surgery for early January. Guest guest
Hi Gail.... Welcome. Did a doctor tell you that you'd end up in a wheelchair? One of my biggest pet peeves is a medical professional telling someone with scoliosis that they'll end up in a wheelchair, in order to scare them into having surgery. While it does happen, it happens to people with massive curves, and then not all of them. Someone with a 47 degree curve at 42 would almost certainly not be in a wheelchair from their scoliosis. For the record, I have had scoliosis surgery, and think it's an excellent option for many people. I just don't think people need to be scared into doing it. Regards, > > Hi.
