Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, welcome back, Gee, you were just an hour away from me. I live south of Denver in Highlands Ranch, just to the S of Littleton. As for your symptoms while you were here, I have no doubt you were experiencing a touch of altitude sickness. When you went walking, where did you do it? Were you in the mall or out on the land? I guess what I mean, is was it flat? Did you happen to notice if you were breathing any differently than normal as you walked? I know you said you had no problem, just wondering if maybe you made some changes you weren't aware of? Lowlanders aren't used to our thin air, and people DO dehydrate easily here. So drinking lots of water was the right thing to do. I had to chuckle to myself one time. I was up in the mountains and had to make a pit stop. As I was leaving there were a couple tourists talking about how they needed to stay hydrated in this altitude. Good, BUT, then they went on to say how much coffee they were drinking to do that! WRONG!!!! That will dehydrate you SOOOO fast! I thought about telling them, but they had that look about them, you know the one, they know it all, and wouldn't listen. As for the breathing, I do think it is a bit harder on you here, if you aren't used to the altitude for sure! I'm from CO and lived in KS for a while. For me it was the opposite, I do MUCH better in thin air...LOL That is wonderful about your son! Please give him my thanks as well. He is my hero! Him and all the rest. I'm so happy to hear too, about your Mother coming thru Charley in good shape. I have several friends there. All but one family lives in the Orlando area. The one that doesn't, lives right outside of Tampa. They left there before it hit and went to Tampa. Go figure, they left where it was sposed to hit and ended where it hit bad. I've seen the pictures of the devastation. I can't even imagine seeing it in person. Now that I've rambled and explained this to death, I'll close. Happy you're back and hopefully the board is picking up now!! Love to all, Kiki
Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, I don't know the answer to any of your questions but just wanted you to know you have my sympathy. :-( Connie I'm back... Hi everyone! Well, I'm back from my business trip (to Colorado Springs) ... While there, I worked 12+ hour days, no weekend breaks -- not exactly a vacation! I was unable to do my LL exercises/breathing for the most part -- every time I tried, I got very light-headed and dizzy. Altitude perhaps??? (I'm from Austin, fairly low and somewhat humid.) However, I did a LOT of walking (aimed for 10 miles/per day) -- did my breathing along with the walking. I drank a LOT of water (had a headache for the first several days, many of the natives suggested extra water because of the dryness). Ate very carefully (well, sort of -- seldom ate out, typically ate avocadoes, tomatoes, fruit, yogurt, tuna fish, etc. in my hotel room). Woke up last Thursday with a badly wrenched back -- took me close to 30 minutes to get into a sitting position (in bed) -- then was so dizzy that I laid back down and started LL breathing and kneading the sore spot on my back -- eventually was able to get up and hobble into work (about 1/2 mile walk -- bet I looked like some derelict, shuffling a few feet then stopping and taking some deep breaths....). Whatever it was, it seems okay now (perhaps it developed from lugging a heavy laptop back and forth?). Questions: 1. Does increased altitude make it harder to do LifeLift? Or was it something else? I was able to walk for an hour at a time with no difficulty, just not do my standard morning exercises... 2. Did the kneading plus LL breathing do anything positive for my back? It felt like it did, but one time is hardly indicative of much????? 3. Who wants to hear me whine? 17 days of very light eating, and NO weight loss! I did start taking some acidophilus tablets (talked with a nutritional doctor (?) -- he thought that they might help my stomach problems -- as long as I continued my eating and exercise plan) and they seem to be working! -- though again, too short of a time frame to be certain. I do think my stomach isn't as bloated as before. Started my exercises back up this morning -- almost seems like I'm starting all over -- broke into a sweat while doing them, and the leg lifts were simply impossible (though that may be left over from my back problem). Had a LOT of emails from this group -- looks like everyone is doing great! Glad that no one was hit with Hurricane Charley. My mother lives in Venice (the next town up the coast from Port Charlotte) -- her house was untouched, she lost electricity for about 4 hours and that was all. My former sister-in-law lives in Port Charlotte, her house was untouched but across the street from her the houses were leveled.... Had a message from my son (the Air Force one, over in Spangdahlem) -- he was promoted to sergeant! (first level) and received an award for outstanding maintenance (or something like that, his phone msg was really garbled). It really is surprising when your off-the-wall kids actually grow up and start accomplishing good things! Don't yet know when he's going to be deployed, sometime in the next week or so.... Everyone take care, and keep breathing! Bonnie
Guest guest
Welcome home! I know that when I wrenched my ankle, Rashelle had me rub the spot and breath and it made a world of difference so I'm pretty sure your breathing and rubbing is what helped with your back. As for the high altitude...I'm not sure but it sure would make sense...the air is so much thinner there. Perhaps the breaths needed to be done slower and less forceful? Congrats on your son! Isn't it exciting? I'm so proud of him! Please let him know how grateful I am for his service. Do you know which sand he is being deployed to? with love, Jenni Proud Air Force Mom! Guest guest
Bonnie, I know exactly where you were walking, downtown anyway, since I don't know what hotel you were at. Altho, I'd know it...LOL Yes, our critters here are very used to people and will eat out of your hands, which isn't a good idea, like that stops us...LOL I've been feeding chipmunks forever. They love nuts of all kinds. It's fun to watch them get a sunflower seed out of the shell. I was born in the Springs, where is your husband from? It's not that cold! With it being such a dry semi arid climate, there's no humidity so the cold doesn't go right thru you. We have had a cooler and rainier spring and summer. Actually almost like it was growing up to a point. Not like that anymore with all the people that have moved here and all the cars and buildings. If you ask your husband, he'll tell you, we never used to have A/C here, didn't need it. We had an attic fan growing up, but honestly, I think I remember once or twice it ever being on. Nights you always had to have a sweater or lite jacket. In that way, it is back to normal! I spose tho, if you're used to a place that really doesn't have a winter, per say, it would be cold to you. I get so tired of all the {sorry bout this, no offense intended, but it's true} Californians and Texans that have moved here complaining bout it snowing!!! Excuse me, it's COLORADO!!! And with the drought, we don't get near the amounts we used to! As far as something you can do for altitude sickness, that I'm not positive about, but I want to say yes. You might ask your Dr. At least you have 'small' symptoms and haven't gotten put in the hospital, like so many. Or you could do a search online. I'll also ask around, to see if anyone I know has had experience with it. A friend of mine came to visit a few years ago, and we ended up taking her to the hospital. As long as you're drinking a lot of water, that will help. I think you may be right about your body adjusting to the altitude as you drive. It's not just a shock to it. Can't say for sure, but it sounds good to me! I'll let you know if I find anything out... Kiki
Guest guest
Hi Kiki, My walking was outside and relatively flat (Tejon Street at lunch -- 30 minutes, then turn around), and in the evening on a walking path beside a creek (one evening I managed to get turned around and logged in about 10 miles getting " unlost " !). My breathing during walking was one LL breath every few breaths -- not continuous as I do with my morning exercises. I did stop to feed the squirrels -- the critters actually took nuts out of my hands! (They weren't at all interested in the crackers I brought one evening -- I think they're smarter than we are! -- but do they ever like raw cashews....). My husband is from Colorado so we visit at least once a year -- his parents are in an assisted living place in Strasbourg -- CO is beautiful, I love the mountains, but oh is it COLD! And these past 2-3 weeks there was so much rain, temps down in the 50s (and this is August!), hail... One afternoon my group managed to go to the Royal Gorge -- I climbed up a lookout and then had trouble breathing for a while (well, the others were young and I wasn't about to let them think that I was in poor shape....). I also got to see the Garden of the Gods -- but never made it to Pike's Peak! I think I've become acclimatized to Texas -- I prefer the hot weather -- I was really happy to get home and finally warm up! I wonder if there is any way to avoid the altitude sickness? Every time we go to CO, I end up with headaches for a few days. I drink enough water to float, so I doubt that it's dehydration. I think that when we drive I manage better than when we fly (maybe my body adjusts as we travel?). We're flying to CA next month(vacation) -- sure hope it doesn't hit me as we drive up the coast (to WA)! Any hints on how to avoid altitude problems will be much appreciated! Guest guest
Hi Kiki, I stayed at the Antlers Hilton Hotel (which I understand was the Marks Antlers a few weeks ago), and I worked in the Plaza of the Rockies building. I really enjoyed walking on my lunch hour and spending my food per diem on new clothes!!! Sure beat overeating and gaining weight! The few times that I ate with the group, the servings were gargantuan -- I would immediately ask for a to-go box and put 1/2 to 2/3 away for future meals -- yet my co-workers (most of whom were about half my age) were able to finish their servings ... oh well, I was once young, too. The only place we were served reasonable portions was at the Broadmoor (Garden Room, a very nice lunch). I do enjoy feeding the squirrels and chipmunks, though a couple of years ago I almost got a ticket for feeding chipmunks (somewhere in CO, at one of the parks -- Estes maybe???). Anyway, there was a sign " Do not feed wild animals " and so I was feeding birds and chipmunks, didn't think they were included in this -- I was approached by a forest/park ranger -- she gave me a warning ticket and quite a lecture -- but honestly, I thought " wild animals " referred to the elk, bears, etc. Whenever I " brag " about never (in 44 years of driving) getting a traffic violation/ticket, my husband likes to pull this one out -- an " almost " ticket for feeding the chipmunks - LOL! My husband was born in Limon, and grew up in Deer Trail (on a very poor ranch -- they had no running water/toilets, the boys hoed the fields in the summer, etc. -- not your typical picture of " rancher " !). His family is now scattered in Colorado Springs, Greeley, Bennet, Calhan, Berthoud, and Strasburg -- and we're in Austin. Harry went into the Air Force back in 1964 (after college) and stayed on for 21 years, so he's lived all over the world (we just got married 6 years ago)... I've lived many years in Idaho and Washington, so I am " used " to the cold dry weather -- however, I think that the older I get, the less I can tolerate the cold. And I think that you get accustomed to the climate that you live in. I remember when one of my sons transferred from New Orleans to Boulder (during a Christmas break) and how fascinated he was at first with the snow. Then he started hating the stuff. Finally he got into the bicycling/hashing/off-road 4-wheeling/skiing, etc. -- and he loves the place (however, now he's in Fort Worth, living with a sister, while he tries to find a job -- a Ph.D. in chemistry and no job openings!!!). Anyway, you have a lovely state, and I enjoy visiting it! I even enjoy the snow (as long as I know that I won't have to drive in it or shovel it - LOL!). I did observe that there seemed to be less obesity (just from watching people during my walks) and a lot more emphasis on physical fitness (maybe we're so hot and muggy here in Austin that anything outside is typically impossible during our summers?)... Take care, Bonnie
Guest guest
Welcome back! Glad you and your family made it through the storms safely! I know you will get back on BFL as soon as you can. It must be so discouraging to have to throw food away and start over stocking up and trying to eat healthy...But keeping a positive attitude and setting a goal to get back on track is 95% of the battle, and you're already there! Guest guest
Gee... too bad you didn't have fun... LOL... j/k Welcome back to April in NY... www.BlueMountainBotanicals.com I'm back... Tried to bribe the folks at Southwest Air so that and I could be 'bumped' last evening. Don't you know, the flight was NOT overbooked. How could they do this to me? I was ready to go back to 's cousin's home in Lake Wales. We left 70 beautiful degrees to come home to this mess. Son and DIL had it worse in Hamburg. What a wonderful time we had!!!. Ate and drank and relaxed to the max! We did the Wildlife Excursion at Animal Kingdom for Concierge guests. Can't describe how wonderful that trip was. Even the grandkids loved it. Now have to get intto serious business here. I have a lot of craft shows booked starting in May. Do I really want to do this? Waded through hundreds of e mails and deleted most. I forgot to change my settings before we left. So, has there been any information on the gathering - places to stay, etc? Someone asked about silk in one of th e mails. I cut up a silk blouse into small squares about 1 - 1 1/2 inch pieces and put that into the lye water. Soap comes out silky smooth. Our kitties were so happy to see us! Stayed on the bed all night long. And we did miss them too. As says 'there's no place like home' but I would like the warm weather and daily sunshine. Guest guest
Hi Jeanine It sounds like you had a grea time. We leave for Disney a week from Friday. My daughter's on the Varsity Softball team and they're playing games at the Disney World of Sports Complex. Teams go there from all over the country. I can't wait to get out of this messy weather. My luck, it will be raining down there, too. I'm back... Tried to bribe the folks at Southwest Air so that and I could be 'bumped' last evening. Don't you know, the flight was NOT overbooked. Guest guest
, welcome out of lurk-dom! Look at your weight loss in mini stages (goals) also... I know when I look at my 100+ lbs that are remaining to lose it can get that way and it does get scarey. We can do it... we are all here with you!! Think of it in 5-10 lb increments and give yourself mini non-food rewards as you go along. You are doing great!!
Guest guest
Welcome back ... Do you know what is making you scared? Being unhappy at work probably does not help. I was a teller and my boss always taught me kill them with kindness. So if I got the most unreasonable person and they were not so nice i would kill them with kindness. It either calmed them down OR urked them to shut up. LOL Are you journaling? Beverly got 18 in of snow over the weekend. Lately they have been getting more than me here in nh which is unusual. chat soon. NH... Mom to Abby Liz 10/94 Anne 7/

Guest guest
Thanks , I dont know everytime I start to lose some weight its like oh no.. I better stop that I might draw attention to myself.. I hide behind my weight.. In person I am very very shy and very very quiet.. I have been at my job now for almost 2 years and there are some people there who dont even know my name because I basically only speak when spoken to.. There are days when I love my job.. you just cannot beat the benefits and the pay.. they give out all kinds of prizes about once a week or every 2 weeks sometimes daily depending on what they have going on.. But then there are days where all you get are non stop problems from customers those are the days I hate.. but overall it is a great job... I dont really journal.. when I was a teenager I had a diary and my brother read certain parts of it outloud to my whole family that was the most embarassing thing... therefore for fear that someone would read it I don't journal... My mom in Peabody told me they got alot of snow.. She said about 18 inches.. I miss the snow.. Send some my way... Thanks for the support Jase4567@... wrote: Welcome back ... Guest guest
Same here - MIA & 150 more or less to lose. I don't get scared when I make progress but I sure have gotten lazy. It must be something in the air - I am unhappy at work too - I tech support a web based program and everyone has been calling to yell lately - over things that aren't even our fault half the time, In addition to troubleshooting our program - we end up having to help them with thier pcs and other programs and I'm really disliking mcaffee these days grrrr! Usually the people I work with are the best part of the day but all of a sudden we have a divided camp To quote Jodi Messina - my give d@#$ is busted. I have started easting better and drinking my water. Only worked out 2 times the past week. We can do better this week (I say as I'm a week behind). Hope you made your goals <bostonsweety27@...> wrote: I have been MIA lately... I I have about 150lbs to lose.. It seems so overwhelming...I was doing ok after the first of the year. I started off about 325 and got down to about 315 after that I got scared... of what I do not know and started putting the weight back on...I am back up to about 320 right now I am going to set mini goals for myself. I am always making excuses as to why I can't do this or why I can't do that. Truth is I am being lazy about it I just need to do it. I have been very unhappy at work lately. I have taken some vacation days the end of january and beginning of Feb and just called in sick the past few days. The pay is excellent, the benefits are unbelievable but sometimes I just do not like my job. Being in customer service is very hard and hearing people complain day after day and yelling at me for things I have no control over is really getting to me, even though I am not face to face with these people talking over the phone I think is worse..
