Guest guest
Hi Gretchen: Do you know what re-action Synvisc Injections have on a person with CMT? Also is it possible to successfully have knee replacement surgery? In addition to my CMT I also have osteoarthritis in my knees. Thanks, again, for all of your great help. Guest guest
Hello , I'm afraid my knowledge of Synvisc Injections on a CMT person is zilch. As for knee replacement surgery, it is quite common but for a CMT person my knowledge is zilch. My suggestion to you on the Synvisc would be to research it's chemistry and look for any 'flag' that might say 're: neurology'. I also wonder how your leg and knee muscles are now because that might influence the length of recovery. My mother at age 80 had knee replacement surgery and was up and walking almost immediately and had quite a course of physical therapy following that. In no time she was back to life as usual, except no pain. (she didn't have CMT) One other thought I am having with the osteoarthritis, is have you tried any of the meds for osteo yet? There is still only one med on the CMT Drug Alert list and it is for rheumatoid arth - Gold, and with all the news ones on the market, I don't think gold is in much use anymore. If you can trace any of the meds or injections back to some chemically similar drug on the list, I would be cautious. If I could have major back surgery last year and now be in no pain and so busy I have no time to sit I would bet your knee surgery would go well. I got 5 opinions before back surgery - from both orthos and neuros. So, have you already a number of opinions about this? I will also add that I had some heavy duty physical therapy and worked my butt off to strengthen my back. I do the aquatics for that still and general workout. So, you will want a doc who believe in PT to get moving again. , I am sorry I am not of better help here. One last thought, my back surgery was done by a pro ortho in sports medicine who has 20 years of experience. Don't be afraid to interview or 'grill' a prospective doctor until you find the right one. ~ Gretchen pmaher7777@... wrote: > > Hi Gretchen: > Do you know what re-action Synvisc Injections have on a person with CMT? > Also is it possible to successfully have knee replacement surgery? > In addition to my CMT I also have osteoarthritis in my knees. > Thanks, again, for all of your great help. > > >
