Guest guest
Hi Debbie, It's possible that practitioners of alternative therapies do them differently in different areas of the country, but I've had both Reiki and cranio-sacral work and they're very different - at least in Massachusetts. My Reiki practitioner never actually touched me, though she did put stones on different parts of my body. Reiki is therefore considered energy work - and she did talk about moving energy and channeling energy. I found it useless, but relaxing. On the other hand, my cranio-sacral practitioners (I've had 3) actually did hands-on work - spreading and pushing my skin with a light but palpable touch. It was very helpful. It's a bonafide physical therapy in Europe. Just wanted to clear that up from my own experience. Regards, Andy
Guest guest
Another form of this treatment is called " Body Talk " Do a google search on it. I've had it done by a PT and only stopped because my insurance was paying for PT and I wasn't receiving it. Re: Cranial-Sacral work Craniosacral treatments are simply energy work, if you are familiar with that type of stuff. It's similar to Reiki and other energy modalities such as Quantum Touch (these use hands laid on the body whereas Acupuncture frees energy thru needles placed at specific meridians). A lot of massage therapists do it and are certified in it, as well as occupational therapists, physical therapists, etc. While it might feel as if she is moving her hands while they are placed on your head, neck & sacrum, for the most part she is not ( & she will probably tell u this). It is your energy & body system coming into alignment. The only thing she is doing to " align " with this particular modality is acting as a channel & helping your body heal itself, as they say The claim is to free up your blocked chi (energy). They say they can 'feel' the fluid whooshing freely throughout the spinal canal when there are no blockages. If you are a person who meditates, you can do this energy work on yourself. It is a treatment in which there are some ppl who receive benefits while others don't notice any difference at all. Many ppl simply find it relaxing. It is a form of alternative medicine. Since this group is for medically approved treatments, if you have any further questions you can email me personally, Debbie. I'm not a practitioner, but I might be able to help you because I have many friends who are in the aforementioned fields and could consult them with anything I'm not able to answer myself. Also, I've experienced cranio-sacral therapy, Reiki & QT, so could give u details on what I felt from each of those & how ea. affected the pain. ~Moonbeam > > Do any of you folks out there have any experience with cranio- sacral therapy? My physical therapist also specializes in cranio- sacral therapy, and is starting to use this as part of my physical therapy. So far, I LOVE it. I am beginning to wonder if all my scoliosis problems and other physical symptoms of pain and tenderness might be a result of my first cranial vertebrae being out of alignment. I have known this for a long time and have had other therapies to adjust my neck. But my physical therapist is talking about energy flow from my cranium to my sacrum, and I have known for years that that is impaired by my scoliosis. Now, after my back fusion, L-4, S1, it is impaired even more. > Just wondering what someone might have to say about this. > Thanks > Debbie > > >
