Guest guest
Or your esophagus can become sigmoid-shaped to the point where endoscopies can no longer be performed. After having advanced achalasia for 27 years, I have two surgical options-- a colonic interposition or a gastric pull-up--both of which would still allow aspiration and acid reflux. The only thing they might provide is relief from the chronic pain, which can be managed pharmacologically. The highly invasive surgeries have great inherent risks. Even stomach stapling, a rather simple gastroenterology procedure is known for having a high incidence of surgical side effects-- including death. So, the decision to NOT have surgery should not be dismissed as being ALL wrong. No surgery is 100% safe. Should the esophagus be peforated during surgery, serious complications would result. One must always weigh the benefits vs. risks. I've had all the treatments, short of the extrication of the esophagus, which one of my GI doctors wanted to do. And i'm glad I have NOT had it done. > > > > Hey Nate - the dangers with putting off your surgery is that your > > esophagus can become grossly distended, preventing a routine > Hellers > > from being effective. Guest guest
Dear Steve, I can fully understand your hesitation and reluctance, under the circumstances. Have the Doctors said that it is important that you have this Surgery? What do they say will happen if you don't? And would you tell me how old you are if you don't mind. I think your age is a relevant factor in this. We can see the advantages in treatments, especially for those who are having a hard time with weight issues, but for those who are coping reasonably well, does anyone know what would happen if you were to go through the whole of your life without treatment? Could you expect your life to be shortened because of it? There is so much I have still to learn and take in, even after all these years of it. With love and gratitude to you all from Ann in England xxx> > >> > > Hey Nate - the dangers with putting off your surgery is that > your > > > esophagus can become grossly distended, preventing a routine > > Hellers > > > from being effective. I really need support and info. I am wondering how long I can go before I do damage or am miserable. Are there anu other options for severe stenosis? Does anyone else on here habe Luque Rods? I hear it is commen to have problems below and above the rods. I wonder how bad a lamenectomy is? Do I even want to know? Replies welcome. Guest guest
Hi Becky, I have Luque rods from a fusion in 1996, T4-L4. I developed degenerated discs below my fusion and was fused again from L3-S1 in 2002. I haven't been following this thread but if you could tell me a bit about your back, it would help. Things like what your curve measured before and after your fusion, what levels were fused, do you have back pain and if so, how much, are you seeing a scoliosis specialist for your back right now, and has your doctor discussed surgery for your stenosis? Anything you'd like to add would be helpful. Note that I do *not* have stenosis but I do have flatback from the first fusion. I may have to get " re-alignment " surgery some day but for now, 30mg MS-Contin twice a day works well enough. Take care, > > What is a Spinal Revison? I still need the surgery for Stenosis. Guest guest
Spinal revision is a surgery on a scoli back that has already had a surgery (or more) on it. The revision surgery may be for a new reason such as a broken rod or a new reason such as stenosis, etc. lj From: beckybugkins <beckybugkins@...> Subject: Putting Off Surgery Scoliosis Treatment Date: Monday, April 13, 2009, 1:10 AM What is a Spinal Revison?
