ANYONE in my opinion............................with Scoliosis is taking a

great chance,(surgery or not).......................... of doing major damage,

fracture, etc., if the airbag opens.

I was told by my doctor.......................small fender bender to major

accident tha opened the air bag was very dangerous. I feel air bags save many

lives, so don't think I am preaching negative. It is very different for us who

have Scoliosis.

My husband's aunt was told by her doctor in Nashville, 2 years

ago.........due to her condition, she could drive no longer without taking a big

chance of

fractures in the driver's seat, and could not ride in passenger seat as well.

She has to sit in the back seat as a young child. She had been so

independent, and now she feels such anxiety, having to depend on family and

friends to

function with routine daily living.

Hi Jolene,

To my knowledge, at least in BC, you need a doctor's certificate that states

your condition and that you are unable to sit more than, I believe, 6 inches

from the air bag. It is best to check with your licensed motor vehicle

regulations for your area and to discuss it with your doctor.

Air bags ???

Someone wrote 2 weeks ago about air bags. To my knowledge no one

responded-at least online. I'll bring it up again...after spine fusion,

should we

disable our car air bags to prevent serious damage to our fused spines? I'm

wondering if it is safe to use air bags within the first year after surgery

or

afterwards? Does anyone know or have experiece with this issue? It seems

that even

in a minor fender bender air bag inflation could damage us serverely.

Should

we be sitting in back seats like children? What about when we start driving

again after fusion?

I think this is a issue we need to discuss online if possible.

Hi Jolene. It's a good question but I would have to

rely on whatever my surgeon tells about disabling the

air bags. I would guess that the risks of an accident

and not have the air bag would be worse and damage us

more severely - - than having an accident and the air

bag activate. -Kathi in NJ
