dear All-

wishing you a healthier New Year. I drop in & out of site depending on my

health..of course i have run into a brick wall painfully so & am asking for

your wisdoms collectively...

about 6 weeks ago my hands began to ache, not debilitating just 'there'.

took extra breakthrough dilaudid occassionally. then two weeks ago awoke

with stiff neck, went to chiropracter, seemed to alleviate frozen neck, then

started hands swelling & pain and then stabbing pain in my knees, stabbing

in my hands, my fingers curling in a fisted position hurts to open hand

then pain became excruciating from knees to toes, as if they were crushed,

knife stabbing pain in hands and travelled up both arms into shoulders up

neck into jaw. hurt to move mouth or arms or fingers, i was screaming in

agony. It got so bad i lost use of my hands & arms for the day after

christmas, too much pain, no one could pry my fists open, my fingers

tightened grasp. my hubby had to dress me, potty me, any movement made me

scream..my doc put me on an anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory Bextra, increase

pain meds..Akso running fever 100 but don't feel it. just it is there every

day along with dry mouth & the feeling my tongue is way to big for the

ibnside of my mouth . the fibromyalgia doc thinks it was just a bad fibro

flare-up out of control BUT I nEVER experienced pain in these places like

this ever before. i am quite freaked out as I don't know what the heck is

going on.. any thoughts on this bizarre stuff?

wishing you many peaceful moments

Hi! (To Twisted Sister)

I saw your posting relating your recent illness, and felt compelled to write.

About six weeks ago for me, as well, in a different area of the country, I

had a very strange " bug " . I went to bed and stayed there for a full week, in

pain and running fevers as high as 103. Even my husband, who is unusually

calm, was very upset by this " whatever it is " . I even saw the doctor at one

point

and, although he never identified the actual bug, my labs were way off in

every category! I do have arthritis and osteoarthritis and, of course,

scoliosis. Some thought I had a kidney infection (very likely) and others said

my

arthritis had gone over to " rheumatoid " . I was put on Cipro and increased pain

meds as well. I was also told that it would take " some time " to get past the

illness, and it did. I still am not sure what it was, but I do lean toward

kidney.

I certainly sympathize with you. We are not people who are easy to treat.

I know that I have all sorts of sequelae from my back. I hope that by the

time you read this you will know what your mysterious disease was and that,

certainly, you are feeling very much better.

Sincerely,

Carole

Dear Kathleen,

That is so awful! I'm sorry you've been in such pain. The fever does make it

sound like some sort of infection, and all that other stuff sounds neuroligical,

like an infection is attacking your nerves?

I hope it goes away as mysteriously as it came, but otherwise I'd say an

evaluation by a neurologist, if possible someone with a strong background in

spinal and scoliosis surgery, would be in order.

Kathleen,

I'm so sorry to hear about your painful condition. I wish I had some advice to

offer beyond what you have gotten from others. My thoughts are with you.
