You feel like you're reborn. I'll never forget my husband and mother staring at me and couldn't get over how straight I looked. I have to admit once I was up and around I did a lot of clothes shopping. For the first time in my life I could actually wear something that clinged to my back instead of baggy shirts. Good luck with your recovery. It sounds as if you are doing wonderful. I also had an angel for a husband. I know it was just as hard on them as it was for us. Keep us posted as to how you are doing. Maybe I missed a previous email from you but I was wondering if you could tell us where you are from, your age, was this a revision surgery, and where is Dr. Lenke from. I for one am looking for a surgeon and I think many of us out there are in need surgery and are looking for help. Thanks. Elaine ewilkie@... Joyce Edmonds surgery Hello everyone. I would rather send individual emails to each of you but my time on the computer is limited. I know you will understand. I had my surgery for scoliosis deformity (posterior) on July 9. It was a total success! I spent one week in the hospital and then went to rehab for 3 weeks. I was supposed to go home at that point and wait up to 6 months for the anterior part of correction. While still in rehab, I got a phone call from Dr Lenke's nurse saying I was doing so well they wanted to go ahead with the second part. We did and had just as much success as the first. Three weeks later we were on a plane headed home! I went from a 125 degree curve to straight as an arrow! I have to wear a brace for 6 months but it has become a part of me. At times I forget it's on. It is so good to be home. I miss the 24 hour nurse's call button but it had to end sometime. I have not signed up for out patient rehab yet but plan to do so. I still have a long way to go. I am walking every night and increase the distance each time. Life is wonderful. I noticed I referred to " I " a lot in this note so let me say this. I could not have made it without my husband. He was with me every day in the hospital and never missed a rehab session. I am so fortunate and so blessed. It is a good thing for us to read of someone whose story is as happy as yours. It gives people so much more hope! So far, revision surgery has not been suggested for me, but I still am happy when I hear of someone like you. You keep on keepin' on! Carole M.
