Guest guest
I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with their ribs getting inflamed?? Last weekend, I woke up with pain in my side, under my ribs, and when it didn't go away, I went to the doctor the next day, and she did a chest X ray , and said I have inflammed ribs, and gave me a prescription for anti-inflammatories, which have worked, and I'm not in any pain anymore. Does anyone know if this could be caused my the rods in my back? or is it just a freak occurance? Guest guest
I think rib pain is quite safe. Did they break and reset a few ribs , when you were operated on? The rib worry is't a big worry, from a health point. It won't damage any nerves or that sort of thingI used to have sore ribs from time to time. I did have occupational astma in the past . Get your breathing checked, as astma can give you sore ribs, and is easy to control. I was a sculptor and found Iwas allergic to so much plaster dust which did make my ribs sore but was not connected to having had a few ribs broken during my spine straigtening operation. You have rods in your back, so you had a traumatic operation, which could have made you sensitive to being allergic. Also they probably did break a few ribs to reset if you had a rib hump? What surgery did you have, did they collapse your lungs at all? Check out all the possibilities, but I feel you shouldn't panic about rib soreness. How long ago did you have your op? The op often involves your ribs being in a diffent position, so it would take a while for the surrounding tissue and muscles#to adjust. To be perfectly honest the time to really worry about the surgery you had, would be if you had nerve restriction to your arms, pins and needles in your hands that sort of thing. However if they did collapse your lungs with your operation, then get them checked out , just to be sure, they are in good condition. Be alert , having had the operation you had, however rib soreness, isn't something which could degenerate. Get your breathing/lung capacity checked , by your doctor, to put your mind at ease. Guest guest
Hmm...as far as I know they did not break my ribs or such. They took bone from my hip, instead of using ribs, Iknow. I gues its possible that they collapsed my lung, but if they did, they didn't tell me. I had a friend who had a collapsed lung and had similar chest pain from scar tissue, so I suppose its a possility. I had my surgery 7 years ago, so I think its odd that it just occured now. Although I do have increased allergies since then. Well, the anti-inflammatories took care of whatever it was. I was just mainly curious if it could be related since it seemed like such an unusual problem to have an inflammed rib. Sara
Guest guest
well, I know that my scoliosis came with kyphosis. That hurts my ribs a lot. I have to get my daughter to push the lump on my back back in so that it puts the ribs back in place. does that make sense? love sue You have the right to remain. odd question.... > I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with their ribs getting > inflamed?? Guest guest
My operation was fifteen years ago , and they did break a few ribs to straighten out the rib, hump. They didn't collapse my lungs as they , operated from the back. However as I understand it with some more recent operations they don't always go in through the back, and do sometimes deflate and reinflate lungs as part of the procedure. I developed allergies, after my operation too. I'm pleased your rib is better. --- Sara Brunsell <astare@...> wrote: <HR> <html><body> <tt> Hmm...as far as I know they did not break my ribs or such. Guest guest
Hi! I have a lot of that kind of trouble (rib pain). I've been told that there is a nerve bunch there set off by nerves in the spine which are compressed by my scoliosis. I even have had the nerve bunch frozen a couple of times, which worked wonderfully, until my M.D. moved away. We knew that the treatment was not a cure, but it certainly helped. My scoliosis is very severe, is yours? I also suffer from " peripheral neuropathy " which just means that hands and feet are affected by nerves in the spine. The spine is, after all, an important place of nerves, I believe. I get anything from pins and needles to shooting pains in both my feet and hands. I don't know how to cure it except to treat it symptomatically, but I thought maybe knowing someone else suffered from the same things might make you feel better. This response was particularly intended for Sue. ----Original Message Follows---- From: " suesclues " <sueboowhoo@...> Reply-Scoliosis Treatment <Scoliosis Treatment > Subject: Re: odd question....
