Guest guest
, Like a lot of things, the technology back twenty or thirty years ago was consider the best that the medical providers had. There are so many things that happened years ago that simply cannot be judged at today's standards. My wrists/hands are ruined due to years and years of typing starting, early on, with large, non-electric machines when, if you wanted a capital letter, your finger pushed down a button which lifted the whole carriage! I have no plans to sue " Royal " or whoever made the typewriters back then! Likewise, although my Harrington Rod may be different from the really old ones, I have absolutely no plans to sue anyone over my flatback or my distress. My awful back was the instrument (no play on words here!) which caused me to meet the best doctors I'd ever had, not just for my back, but for all the sequelae from it. I do hope that others will realize that, maybe, they've learned a lot, gleaned something, and are better off, all things considered! Your letter is great; you always seem to back up your stance beautifully! Sincerely, Carole M.
Guest guest
For anyone tempted to jump on this bandwagon, I'd like to encourage you to read an article about the history of spinal implants first. I have it up on my website at: http://home.comcast.net/~lsracine/WinterArticle.htm Dr. Harrington saved a lot of lives with his invention. Unfortunately, some people have been hurt by that same technology. But, those people who had large curves need to ask themselves what, if any, life they would have had without the surgery. I'd like those of you who had Harrington implants for large curves, and who think that you deserve compensation for your pain, if you'd trade the pain you have, for a much shorter life span. Because a small percentage of people were hurt, should the rest of us do without a technology that helped so many? My personal opinion is that we cannot continue to blame the medical community for every bad outcome. It will eventually put healthcare out of the reach of most people, and will stop technology in its tracks. If someone intentionally hurts a patient, or if they cover up research that shows that people will be hurt by a product, then perhaps those patients deserve compensation. But, punishing a manufacturer who was trying to help people who had nowhere else to go is just wrong. That's my $.02. Luckily, we live in a time where research is available to any of us. If we all do our research so that we can give informed consent before undergoing any medical procedure is the best way to help assure a good outcome. If you want to see recent outcome studies on scoliosis treatments, check out my website at: http://www.scoliosislinks.com/Outcomes.htm Regards, On 2/19/04 4:54 PM, " wilsonlugo2000 " <w_lugo@...> wrote: > If you ve had harrington rods put in and becauseof them developed > flatback syndrome or any other side effect because of them, let me > know, there are a few law firms that are very interested in trying to > help everybody get what they deserve, they want to have a conference > call with me and everybody else that is interested in joining the > lawsuit. contact me as soon as possible, michelle
