Guest guest
Hi Cemal, Did they tell you if your niece has an idiopathic scoliosis? There are many causes for this condition. idiopathic means they don't know what caused it...no apparent medical reason. My son, who was diagnosed at age 16 and at about 50+ degrees, had an idiopathic. For someone as little as your niece, the " watch and see " diagnosis is best. They might be able to stabilize her with a brace. Surgery will only be done if it keeps progressing to dangerous extent. Usually, after 65 degrees, they expect surgey is the best option. You'll no doubt hear from many people soon who can tell you more. here are some links you might want to check out. www.geocities.com/HotSprings/8095/ this is a little girl, older than yours, who had the problem. http://kidshealth.org/parent/medical/bones/scoliosis.html -about surgery. Do you need some general info links? http://www.med.jhu.edu/ais/ also, www.srs.org Also, contact Shriners Hospital in Erie...they are a childrens hospital who help kids with scoliosis'. Depending on the circumstances, they have flown children in from other countries to treat them. They have a fax on their website, if you want to contact them with your case history and see what they say. www.shrinershq.org/shc/erie/index.html I don't know what healthcare is like in Turkey. Keep in touch. Marcia in PA, USA
Guest guest
Hi, unfortunately my niece has other deformations on the spine. She will be taken urgent surgery in 2 weeks. Her MRI shows that there is a bone piece dividing spine into 2 parts (Sorry for my language, it may not be right expression in medical). He said a brain surgeon will clear that piece and he will do a scoliosis operation.10 days later after the surgery, he said he will ada a piece of bone to the bottom end of spine. As long as I understand her structure did not develop well in the embrio.Has anyone gone through these 3 operations ? What should we expect after these surgeries? What is the chance of that my niece can survive all these operations? Please let me know. After reading the previous post regarding " flatback operation and requirement some support " , I would like to suggest to send everyone nice postcards to make them feel supported. I will be very happy if you send my niece and her family postcards to make them feel supported. Thank you and God bless you. Cemal Doganay The address of my niece Nildem Doganay Ugur Mumcu Mah.
