ette - Your e-mail is very encouraging to me. I am having the right iliac screw removed 7 July. I have been very apprehensive about the surgery. I had the revision surgery June 2003 and had lots and lots of complications. All I can think of is the past surgery and it really gets me down. How long will your recovery time be? Were you in lots of pain before the screws were removed? How long did the surgery take? I am having my surgery done at Memorial Hospital, Miami. Were you in the hospital long? The dr is removing the hardware from L-5 down, just on the right side. So glad that you are doing well. Kathypaulette poirier <paulettep11@...> wrote:

Hi Everyone: Thought I'd let you know that I am home and doing well after having the iliac screws removed. I have 2 vertical incisions, about 2 inches in length where the screws were removed. I was very surprised to see the size of them! About 4 inches in length, 1/4 inch diameter and quite heavy! I am feeling relief, although still sore from the surgery. I'll be able to tell more in a few weeks. Doing more and more each day. Hopefully this will be the last surgery for me. My post op appt. is next month, then once a year!

Wishing everyone good health and peace.

Hi Kathy: My revision surgery was (Dr. LaGrone) April, 2004. The discomfort I felt from the screws were when lying down, or if someone would press on them. I am rather thin, and was told this is more common with thinner patients. I had no other hardware removed........just the screws. The surgery was only one hour, and I was in hospital for 2 days. For me, there was no comparison to the revision surgery. Other patients I've contacted felt the same way. Just soreness around the incision sites. I'm walking more daily, and am feeling relief. My biggest concern was loss of correction, but was assured that would not happen with just iliac screw removal. I ultimately trusted the surgeon's advice (who has a great reputation performing revision surgeries), and am glad I did.

Good luck with your surgery on July 7. I'll be sending you positive thoughts.

hope this is your last surgery too, and look forward to hearing

about your progress in the coming weeks.

Take care, Dianne S.
