Guest guest
A while back we were talking about Long Term Care Insurance. I found a possible place to get LTCI -†Underwriting companies are General Electric Capital Assurance Company and in New York, GE Capital Life Assurance Company of New York - I heard about it from Suze Orman and in her website I took the basic medical test and could answer NO to every medical question...so I am just passing this along - here's the website if anyone wants to check into it - click buttons on the left http://www.suzeschoice.com/NASApp/suzeschoice/jspindex.jsp ~ Gretchen

Guest guest
Gil, I had the same experience as , in being turned down for Long Term Care Insurance due to the diagnosis of CMT. I was just offered the opportunity to purchase Short Term Care Insurance by Banker's Life which is pretty much the same as Long Term but the money pool is smaller. ($27,000 / year). The fact that I sometimes use crutches was a disqualifier. The agent was prepared to lie about this, but I was not. I would be facing the possiblility of having benefits denied if they determined that the application had been falsified. This policy could be purchased within a 6-month open enrollment period ( 3 months before and 3 months after reaching age 65) with no physical provided you could answer NO to about 10 questions relating to your health. If you had previously been turned down for LTC, then you would also be turned down for STC. I did just purchase a Blue Cross Smart Value Medigap Policy which seems to be a very sweet orange amongst all the apples in the insurance barrel. This is new to Califoria and is not available in all states. It is mainly available on the East Coast. Please let us know if you are able to purchase LTC for your wife. I don't bother to apply any more and keep my fingers crossed that I will not need it! When the time comes, I will probably have sommeone live- in. Guest guest
Hi Gil: The phrase most commonly used by LTCI is your illness was a " pre-existing condition " . My experience was with Unum Provident who denied my claim because I had a pre-existing condition. I was denied long-term coverage in 2002 for depression as Unum was able to look back in my medical history for 24 months. I had " consulted " my doctor about depression within the past 24 months. My doctor did not think I was clinically depressed and did not prescribe any medication. But just because I had consulted my doctor Unum denied my claim. It would be interesting to know if you could indeed get LTCI by letting the insurance carrier you have CMT. Regards,
