It has been my experience, on other groups, that when a poll is

modified the previous responses are lost.

A great big YES from us!!

My husband has talked about doing this since we saw the bit about it on

TV too.

When we went the the NDSC convention this past year we met the family

that started

the Down Home Ranch and many of the residents too. We think any program

like

this would be great for le.

HI Sue :)

Your ranch sounds great :) I was just talking to about our kids being away

from home the other night lol at the age Sara is now I would honestly answer no

but know that is because I am not ready mentally to release her from my care lol

I'm fixing to get more involved with adult disability issues, kind of force me

to " grow up " As of Monday March 3rd 2008 my plans are --> for her to stay with

me :) I thought about starting up some type of business where she could work for

me or we work together, now March 3rd 2014 I will probably feel and plan

differently. I may not have a choice lol Sara is not a whole lot different than

my other girls, she may follow in their footsteps and do as SHE pleases lol

I'm so proud of you :) you’ve come along way in such a short time, I remember

when you were still taking classes.

Down Home Ranch is near Austin, Texas and I've been there and met the founders,

who have a child with DS. It is a great place and may attend Summer camp

there this Summer. They have a web site:

I think it is a great idea. Anywhere our kids can find safety, dignity and

At this time in our lives I'm with Val. However, I'm sure a ranch or other type

of " segregated " setting is wonderful and very appropriate for some individuals

with Ds or other disabilities. My kids are still fairly young and I " m on the

" inclusion " bandwagon--not just for school, but for life. I hope they will live

interdependently somewhere in our community, with the support of family, friends

and community. Will this happen? I don't know, but I'm not yet ready to change

that dream.

I am more of an inclusion advocate and I'm afraid this sounds more like

segregation than inclusion to me. It isn't something I would want for Tim.

Sue,

Haven’t read all the replies on this yet but I also read about Down Home

Ranch and I was in love! I thought that this would be perfect for my

guy! I don’t know how to make it a reality but I do know that this was

a dream of mine for my who is 14 now.

I am struggling right now with meds and trying to keep the little bugger

out of trouble right now – but it is on my list to research ;-)

Congratulations on my dream come true :-)

I would consider letting Amelia stay at a ranch like the one you discuss. I'd

be scared to death to not have her with me but I think that the independence

would make the death of Mom and Dad easier for her to handle. I would live near

the ranch though.
