Dear Sunshine: Congratulations on your decision. Each phase is a week: clear liquids, cloudy liquids, mushies, soft foods, regular foods. When I had my surgery aout 16 mos. ago, each phase was two weeks long. Once you get back on a regular diet, everyone is different and there are no foods that are "officially" off limits. You will learn through eperience what your body likes and what it doesn't. Some people can't eat eggs, others can. Some people can't do steak, others can. You will figure it out, much like we all did--through trial and error. If you go to Dr. Aceves Bandster page and read the older posts and the multitude of information that is provided there, as well as other websites, you will be very wel-informed for your post-surgical stage. Any time you have questions, send out an email and you will have a whole group of well-informed patients to give some very good answers.

Happy New Year!

Hello! I just got the lapband on 12/28/07. They gave me a paper that has the foods one can eat in the phases indicated. Here is a link to the Mexicali Bariatric Center it is similar to the foods we can eat. http://www.mexicalibariatriccenter.com/Post-Op_Diet.asp

Wednesday was my last day on the first phase in in phase one we are allowed to eat(i mean drink) fruit juice, propel, broth, jello-o, water, tea, water popsicles, clear protein drinks.Thursday I will be starting on phase one part two(days 6-10) i can add Natural Vegetable Jucies like V-8, clear protien drinks plus protein drinks mixed with water(ie. matrix, whey nectar protein mix).

All of this info is given to you on the day before surgery. There are a total of 3 phases before you can start eating soft foods in other words "regular food."

Good luck! Beleive me you are in good hands with Dr. A.

Hi, Congrats on your decision to get the band! If I remember right.....The first 2wks are liquids like apple juice, water, white grape juice, Gatorade, tea, jello....it's called "Bandster-Bootcamp" it's the hardest part! Week 3 you can add milk, creamed soups (still my2 favs), yogurt, pudding and by week 4 you can start soft foods like mashed potatoes, oatmeal...at six weeks you can slowly try regular textured foods. Each person is different after surgery. Some may need to stay at a certain consistancy longer then others due to swelling of the stomach from placing the band. You will know if you should, as you try the stages. As the weeks go by it gets much easier!

You may read different on the web of the US docs, seems each doc has his own version of the post-op diet. Dr.A's is strict but, it is to make sure your band heals in place. I know from experience that if you try the stages to soon...you will vomit! It is So Not a good idea to vomit after surgery..painful:-(

and your band could slip....really bad!

I wish you the Best...You can do 6wks! The rest is GRAVY!:-)

Hi Dana...

Dr. A changed the post op diet a couple of months ago. It's not in

two week stages anymore.

Days 1-5: Clear liquids

Days 6-10: Protein drinks made with water and not milk, and LOTS of

water can be added.

Days 11-20: Full liquids, if it goes through a straw it is probaby okay.

days 21-30: Soft foods, if one does not need to chew it is probably okay.

Day 31: Gradually add solids as tolerated.
