Good job - Yes, the mental thing has to be there..... And it can't

be imposed on you by anyone; it has to be when you are ready yourself.

Have a good weekend!

Great mental hold off about the doughnuts. I work in an office environment as

well and

they are always having tons of junk sitting around for us to eat. Best thing

about my

workplace though is we have a complete kitchen. So, I can come and cook my meals

here

if I want. Great job staying mentally focused though :)

these mix and match dough nuts.... I walk by them feeling the pain from my feet

still -

thinking nope its not worth it.

So it is

now tucked away out of sight and I will pull it out before I fly home in

December to see

family.

Good job! To keep the cholesterol down eat an organic apple a day (with the peel) and if you can, a half grapefriut. Oatmeal a few times a week also. D.,

Good for you for challenging the system -- all of the best in your recovery.

If you don't mind.

I'm curious to know what your cholesterol numbers were before taking lipitor (i.e., total)?

What dosage were you taking?

For how long were you on the lipitor?

Your question --

"Now what do I do to keep the cholesteral (sic)readings acceptable?"

It's a good question -- whose establishes the criteria and who sets the limits that makes everyone including doctors follow in lock step?

These are the current numbers as of last week. I have

been on zocor for 8mos. at a 80 mg. then on lipitor

for 6 mos. at the 40 mg. dosage.

Triclycerides-179

total cholestrol-204

hdl-73

ldl-124

As near as I can tell these numbers have not changed a

great deal in the last year. The Dr. says I should

continue with the 80 mg. zocor, which leads me to

believe I have been lost in the system, because the

same doctor wrote the prescription for the Lipitor 6

mos. ago. He also recomended that I get Zetia in the

10 mg. form to take along with the Zocor which I'm not

taking and haven't been for 6 mos. Go figure!

NOTE FROM ED: What a crock!!!!!!

Darrel,

Using the numbers you've supplied your total should have been < 233 (that's still borderline according to drug industry standards).

(e.g., ldl+hdl+20% of trig# = tot. chol.)

I don't know much about you or your doc but if you were my father or brother (and knowing what I now know) I'd tell them to get as far away as possible from that doc and start reading some of the accounts (here) of those who'd been previously convinced that they needed 80 mg of lipitor or another drug when their tot. chol. was just borderline (according to industry standards). If (and only if) the limits/criteria numbers where important/reliable enough to risk one's health by taking a risky drug then I'd be looking at other, better, safer ways to reduce those numbers.

My own doc tried to get me to take drugs to lower my borderline tot. chol. When I refused, saying I felt the drugs were dangerous he said they were "very safe."

Shortly after that visit last year I left that doc where I'd been a patient for about 12 years. I should also mention that the test results were based on blood that was drawn without fasting prior to the test and I was under duress from severe back pain.

If I understand your email correctly -- you're saying that your numbers haven't changed much from one year ago (prior to lipitor) to what the numbers are today w/ lipitor.

To me this sounds like there's no difference so why take a risky drug?

All of the best to you.

Thanks, Dom, I think we should share some of the blessing that we have, that is why I posted about my twin grandson coming. I hope others will do this to. It can't be all bad in our lives, can it? some of us have found what is working for us and it is good for us to share it. we need the support of each other! God Bless, Elaine

Just gotta say something positive today! I've been feeling GOOD for awhile now, except for a small virus last week, although I kept on working, but sadly missed my stepson's wedding because of it, which was held in another city. Then I was asked to sing at a teenage girl's funeral Tuesday night. Although I didn't sleep well night before, the Lord helped me get through this, and I wouldn't have missed a chance to help this dear family during their time of grief. Now I'm preparing piano students for our School of Music recital Saturday morning. Then on Sunday night, I play keyboard for a wonderful and uplifting musical production at our church that we've been working on very diligently (many rehearsals!)Another blessing is that I continue to get more students through referrals and teach 5 days a week now (afternoons and evenings only...another blessing, because I don't do mornings!)

This level of activity is AMAZING FOR ME, considering I was almost non-functional for many years. I am thankful for the stamina, but I have to stick to my regimen very closely http://www.fms- help.com/ what.htm or it all comes crashing down again.Of course, life is not all rosy....I still have many deep concerns for ailing friends and loved ones, and for my uncle and auntie who were in the earthquake in China (in their 90's) - alive, but have to sleep outside in the rain because their building is unsafe. This is my dad's brother. I also continue to pray for those in disaster areas right now. We've also had several deaths in our family recently too. Reminds me of a T-shirt I saw at a Mcs, which said: "It isn't that life is so short, it's that death is so long." I think what the wearer meant was that eternity is what we

all face, so let's be sure to go to the right place!Thought I'd share some positives today....seems that I tend to talk more when I'm feeling bad than when I'm feeling good! I don't want to depress everyone! The Bible says we are to help bear one another's burdens, but it also says each of us has to bear our own burden. Both are true. I am just happy to have this message board to help other fibromites bear their burdens. BTW, you can't depress me with your bad news (I've heard it all and been through it all myself), and I rejoice in your good news! "A sorrow shared is halved. A joy shared is doubled."Just heard from a childhood friend who had back surgery last year and caught a virus like MRSA. Well, she finally recovered and went back to work, only to be completely exhausted and found out she has to have a heart valve replacement because the bacteria destroyed her heart valve! On top

of that she is being fired for not being "productive enough" at work and will lose her health insurance. Now that's a BIG problem, which helps put mine into perspective even more.Well, gotta leave for work now. Back later.Dom

PTL Dominie;

Yes it is great your regime makes you feel so good. I am

lucky I can still walk around the grocery store with my hubby and

helping him get groceries rather than ride in a cart.I can still

hear, see and smell too. I do Thank God for small things as Big

Things too.I cannot remember the verse in the Bible that sates , " we

should be thankful in all circumstances. "

I also know when I have a bad day it is my LORD using me through this

trial to make me strong like Him. " Like a song I am not giving up or

given in. Sorry you had to miss yur step sons wedding and that virus

hasn't hurt your heart. My dad had the Virus which badly affected his

upper heart chambers where it is not pumping properly and is on 5

medicines coumandin and Lasix and a 3 others but one was cut in

half. So this virus going around is pretty bad and attacks our heart

too So please go are the Dr if you come down with this virus.

Dominie Dr. had a pig Valve put in his heart and someone gave

him a stuffed toy plush pig as a joke. But he kept it in his office

back in the 1990's they lasted 10 years now probably forever. Please

let me know when the surgery is so I can be prying for her.

Rejoicing and praying with you Heidi

Hi folks!

I'm susbcribed to a raw food group and it is amazing how those peoples teach to themselves how to appreciate life at every moment.

Each day, you have to say to yourself an affirmation and how you are grateful that day.

I think this is this kind of attitude that help me to cope with my situation everyday.

I feel so happy, I don't have pain since 2 months now. I feel great, more positive and confident for the futur.

Regarding my situation, I've been injured in an accident on the road that happened in 2006 (Au gust 28th to be exact, how can I forget this date?). I was coming back from Ny to Montreal and 1 hour and a half before arriving to Montreal, the bus flipped over because of a slow leak tire failure. I don't really remember what happened because I was sleeping and when I heard the peoples screaming, I woke up and few seconds later, I had a blackout. Since I was sitting at the front and most peoples who died in this accident were sitting at the front, I'm lucky to be a survivor. (thanks God, I was sleeping)

Since then, I suffer of anxiety, panic attack, depression, post traumatic stress disorder abd myofascial pain. I also had a pulmonary embolism because i stayed in the bed without moving for few days ( and the hospital didn't took all the precaution). In Au gust last year, I suffered a major breakout (feeling abandoned) and then in october, voilà! the first signs of fibromyalgia happened. I did a lot research about it and find out that raw food is a good way to improve my quality of life, which actually id it. I'm no longer depressed and the muscles pain are no longer there since almost 2 months. When I slipped off the diet, I can feel the tender points "telling" me to stop eating scraps. I'm a believer that the body can heal by itself if we eat properly. Some research have been publsihed about raw food and fibromyalgia. It is not easy for everyone to swicth to 100% raw, which I don't really recommend anyway, because it is difficult to eat that way. If I eat 60% raw, I still feel great!

The major change is my attitude, I now feel that I have to be grateful about this accident. I rediscover what life is supposed to be. I recommend everyone to read the POWER OF NOW and A NEW EARTH, from Eckhart Tolle.

I read that for us who has symptoms of fibromyalgia, we have less serotonine and we need to get more. That's why finding our life purpose and being happy is very important for us. I just see this accident as a positive thing now. I'm grateful that God put me on this path so I can rediscover what is really important to me. And since i discover raw food, sometimes, I feel more energy now than before my accident.

LIFE IS GREAT.

Karine

P.S. This is important to remove negativity from our life. Try to find your way, you'll feel much less pain. Trust me, it is true. Illness is just a way for our body to tell us that we need to take care of ourselves. OUr body talk, please listen to it.

Hi group, I am on my first week of treatment, and would like to say

that my sides have calmed down and I am feeling very good.

Yesterday, again no need for my usual nap, I am not used to that,I

have napped every day for years, no matter how long I slept the

night before. I know this probably sounds stupid, but I feel like

the medicine is already working, my body is telling me that. It may

just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I swear I feel better then

I have in years the last two days. My appitite is back with a

vengence, food taste normal again. My second pegasus shot is

tommarrow and I know what to expect now, its just like having a cold

for a day or two. I'm not saying I won't experience more sides as my

treatment continue's but just wanted to share with people that are

to begin treatment soon. I am not saying your experience will be

exactly like mine. My genotype is 1a, viral load before beginning

treatment was 155,000. I was dx with stage 4 grade 3 compensated. I

have carried this virus without knowing for 25+ years, always

wondering why I was always so very tired. Now I know why.

Hey Marsha and all,

I myself, like Marsha is a newby to the group. Friday will be one

week for me on Tx and my second shot, I have done 39 pills so far. I

am glad to hear you are doing well with your side-effects. I too have

been pretty lucky with mine. I never really got much of the flu like

symtoms except for my skin hurt and my joints ached alittle but that

was about the extent of it, been alittle tired but thats not

unusual...The only lingering side effect I have noticed, not sure if

this has affected many others is I cry over the stupidest things. I

can't say its a depression thing because I am not feeling depressed,

its just that a small conflict or if my feeling get hurt, even

slightly I break out in tears which is a very bad thing considering I

work in a prison and would rather not have a bunch of convicts see me

cry. I am hoping this 2nd shot tomorrow will be just as easy and

keeping my fingers crossed for the next 46...UGH! Well good luck to

all, keep your spirits up and one day at a time. We can all get thru

this with flying colors. Have a great weekend.

Lynette,

That

crying thing might even out as you get used to the meds. It’s a big

shock to your system. Are you on anti-depressants? The meds can cause major

mood swings, too.

Suppose you were an

idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress.... But then I

Re: Feeling good

Page, its marsha. I got the doctors orders for my first blood test

one to have lab done on 09/05 and one on 09/19, then I have an

appointment the 23 with him. Is this the way your first test was

done. I always heard that they don't check a person till the 12th

week, unless theres been some bad side effects. which so far there

hasn't been. I was just wondering if some doctors order them at

different times. The second order says with a highlighted star,

repeat at nine months. thanks

Different

doctors use different lab schedules. I think I did mine weekly the first

month, then monthly for a while until I had some problems with my white count &

had to go weekly again. They have to keep tabs on your red & white

counts while you’re on tx. But this is for CBC, etc. My first

VL after tx started was at 12 weeks, then I think we did 24 wks, then at the

end, then 6 months post & every year since. My insurance company

required a recertification at 6 months for me to continue tx, we had to prove

it was working.

  • 2 years later...

I have eaten a whole cheesecake the last two days. Tomorrow I start P2 oddly

enough I have more energy tonight than I have had in a long time. I have been

working in the kitchen all evening. Getting rid of all the food in the fridge

that I will not be eating. I am excited to finally start.
