SSW-That same thing has happened to me before...waking up hungry in the

middle of the night. I found myself thinking, " Great, what do I do now? Eat

and count it as a meal for the day? " That's the worst feeling! I'll be

interested to hear anyone's feedback as well...

EAT!! Eat something small, with protein, and go to bed. Eat a hard boiled egg, eat some raw veggies, eat some cottage cheese, a piece of fruit...something to take the edge off. Now...are you talking about HUNGER

or CRAVING? There's a difference.

Greetings Everyone!

Regarding the question of what you can do if you awaken in the

middle of the night and feel extremely hungy...

You can eat. Just make it a small, authorized meal.

Often in this situation, I will have just one scoop of protein

powder mixed with water. For me, that's frequently enough to

take the " edge " off the hunger. Both Bill and

Hussman have reported that if you happen to wake up in the

middle of the night, a little protein like this isn't a bad idea.

Apparently there is some evidence that the body makes good

use during such a circumstance. Also, one possible cause of

your hunger is the fact that you are getting used to frequent,

small meals. But overnight, you go for quite a while without

eating anything.

Drinking plenty of water also helps me, so I usually have two

glasses in addition to what I mix with the protein powder.

If you feel that you need something more " substantial, " smaller

than usually portions of some whole foods are okay. For

example: cottage cheese and an apple or a pear. If the apple or

pear is too large for a " small portion, " you can eat half instead.

This food does count toward your total day's worth. But if you

keep it to a minimum, it won't add lots of calories, and you will

still be able to eat six meals during the day. One of your day's

meals might need to be a little smaller, depending on your

goals.

In any event, there is no need to lose control. Nor is there any

need to ignore that hunger. You can eat wisely in that

circumstance and stay on track.

Energetically,

Aw Kat! Bless your heart!! when this happens to me, I usually grab a couple of spoonfuls of cottage cheese and maybe one or two of tuna..... then a glass of water.... I keep tuna and veggies and such already prepared in containers for just such an occasion!! I believe said this was acceptable as well in another post today too.... :)

Its funny you mentioned the high glycemic carbs..... before BFL I was a Carb person..... and when I ate carbs I felt good (or so I thought!) but I always woke up starving in the middle of the night!! Anyway, even on the BFL program, if I eat anything high glycemic Ill be hungry for a day or so, no matter how full I actually am.... Now Ive learned my lesson....I stick with oatmeal (amazing how many things you can eat it with! LOL) and brown rice :) I dont wake up hungry anymore :)Just rambling off some thoughts :)

~~

also start avoiding high glycemic carbs and try fruit instead. reviewprotein intake and increase if necessary. You should have 1 gram per lb ofbody weight per day.

Do your nails…I cannot eat while my nail

polish is drying. J

Just an idea or read a book. I always get so involved in a novel that I forget

the world sometimes.

Take care,

You have an excellent attitude! I think I'll print that up and put

it on my fridge. Then whenever I walk into the kitchen I'll turn

right back around :)

Thanks. It actually worked last night. I got a big cup of diet pepsi and

went to watch TV and read some more Sugar Busters. I've had 5 days of

exercise this week and I've been on my new low sugar plan for 4 days without

any major slip ups. I did find out that whole wheat tortillas aren't a good

idea to have around though. Ack. :) My grocery store now makes them fresh

and sells them hot. Even with a tortilla binge my highest calorie day was

2051. Hmmm.... I just checked Sue's site and it says that I should have

1600 calories per day per Foodmover. Using Sugar Busters theory, I should

be able to eat more than that and lose weight if I avoid sugar and certain

carbs. Well, I guess we'll just wait and see. So far my calorie intake per

day has been 1650, 1975, 2050 and 1600. Not bad. I'll see what happens and

adjust accordingly. I know I'm eating very healthy right now. If I have to

drop the calories then I'll do that and be more skeptical of Sugar Busters

theory. :)

I agree with the above. Try adding veggies to your meals and/or

increasing portion sizes to fill you up.

,

If you're feeling weak & dizzy, maybe you should double check your

portions. When I actually measured out a 1/2 c. of cottage cheese, it

really was more than I thought it would be. I was overestimating how

much I dished out.

I get that empty, want to eat feeling sometimes, but not dizzy,

shakey, hypoglycemic feeling. I have been finding that when I'm

hungry in the afternoon & not due for a meal, if I have a cup of hot

tea (w/splenda & ff half & half), it really controls my appetite.

I just started, first time, a week ago today.. 2 load days and this is my 5th VLCD day... The first two VLCD days I too was very hungry.. The craving for food diminished greatly by the 3rd day. I split my 500 calories up during the day. Wake up at 7, have 2 cups of coffee, then 1/2 grapefruit at around 10:00, melba toast at 11, lunch of chicken and a veggie at 12, melba again in the afternoon for a snack and then dinner at 6ish...with an apple at 8 or 9 at night.. Lots of water and tea inbetween... Breaking up the food seems to satisfy my urge to eat and keeps me full till it's time to eat.

From: ascenderdeb <DeborahCross555@...>Subject: hungry! Date: Thursday, April 16, 2009, 7:23 PMThis is only my second day of 500 calories and boy am I hungry.

I try not to eat my fruit with my meal so that I can have it in between if

I'm hungry but it only helps a little. I'm not eating the brreadsticks

or Melba toast. Any advice anyone? Is this a short term phase?

Why are you not eating the breadsticks, you will still lose just fine! I am doing my second round, first round was a cheater and only lost 24 lbs....but 36 inches!  I found the first time I did it I did not gorge as much the 2 load days and I was hungry pretty much the whole time...I found drinking tons of water helped...esp right before I ate. This time I ate til I wanted to puk and I am on day 6 and have not been as hungry....But I still drink alot of water and green tea when I feel hungry...or I sweetened my tea with Stevia, the sweetness tends to help the hunger!Hope this helps youFrom: ascenderdeb <DeborahCross555@...>Subject:
