Guest guest
Welcome Jim and thank you for posting your introduction to us. I have some experience with the same back problem, however, mine was not CMT related, DDD happens sometimes as age sets in. (lol, I was about 48-9 when I got 5 opinions from 3 neurosurgeons, 1 internist and 1 orthopedist. I lived on pain medications for awhile and all that did was perpetuate the pain. At first I did have some success with epidural steroid injections and subcutaneous injections of Enbrel, but nothing was lasting. So, last May '02 I had back surgery - a fusion. The orthopedist did it and I am certain that is why it has been so successful, plus he and I have a great relationship. It has been the best thing that ever happened. I have had a complete recovery in 6 months, with the bone stimulator taken out early because I was healing so well. I got involved in physical therapy right away, most of which was in the pool. It spurred me on to continuing with an aquatics workout program which I enjoy greatly. I am back to a 'normal' life - for me, that means, walking, biking, hikes, gardening, travel, working and yes, even moving furniture! lol I was diagnosed with CMT as a child. So, I would suggest getting help with that disk problem. If someone told me how great I would feel after back surgery - before I had it - I would not believe them. But it is true for me. Back in a regular exercise program really is wonderful - and fun too. Again, welcome to . ~ Gretchen
