Re // I have not wanted to do anything and now I am just depressed. I

don't want to go near a scale for fear that I have gained wieght.

Guess what I am wanting to know is this common and how can I get back

into a groove were I want to exercise ? // ---

Actually I do not have a scale. Sometimes you can do things

absolutely right and for whatever reason gain weight. I only weigh

myself when I go to a dr's office, which I do usually every three

months (diabetes check). That way, I do not get depressed about

numbers. I can always tell about weight by how my clothes fit --

especially jeans. If they feel tighter, I renew myself to be more

rigorous. But I also dont beat myself over the head.

I have recently completed a book that I found fascinating: " The End

of Overeating. Talking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite "

by A. Kessler, MD former commissioner of the Food and Drug

Administration under HW Bush and Bill Clinton. The first part

of the book is for research junkies (I confess) -- and it gives a

great overview of the food industry and how it has contributed to our

" conditioned hypereating. " The second part of the book talks about

how to deal with this learned behavioral habit. It is a very

scientific look at the issue -- but does give advice on " Food Rehab "

-- which I think he has trademarked. It is not for everyone - it is

not a light read, but I found it fascinating. It does support the

cognitive therapy approach to behavior modification -- which I

heartily endorse too! I decided to read it now, just before the

holidays. I have found that since I have been banded, I have

conquired my past demon of starch in the form of breads etc, but now

am battling a new one -- sugar craving! Oh well -- its always

something..........Hope you all have a great holiday.
