Guest guest
Marti, I was denied at first also, due to (lol) 'Charcot foot', not Charcot Marie Tooth Disorder. I asked for reconsideration due to the fact I wanted to have my doctor write something and if necessary, make tests and medical files available. There was NO CMT description in the plan of numerous conditions that would not be eligible. I fought this and finally won. I have a private plan - underwritten by Blue Cross. I am in the process of re-evaluating my needs with LTC and exploring other avenues, since I am 50 now and a member of AARP (lol) I am looking for group plans within their membership. It seems like you are being discriminated because the insurance underwriters do not understand CMT. So, appeal this, whether you go to HR first, or to the underwriter to ask for reconsideration and a medical review. Here's a link to other underwriters if you need it http://www.hiaa.org/consumer/ltcdirec.cfm ~ Gretchen
Guest guest
Marti, unfortunately, long term care insurance is an individual coverage which is always medically underwritten. The underwriters apparently believe that there is a greater chance that you will someday require LTC care, and they aren't willing to take that chance. I'm not trying to justify that decision; I'm just telling you how they work. Underwriting is " insurance-ese " for discriminatory, and they are permitted to pick and choose who they wish to insure based on current health and health history and how it may predict future medical problems. I seriously doubt that you will find any carrier willing to accept you. I'm sorry. Guest guest
I was refused long term insurance when I was 54 yrs old from Metropolitan Life Ins. Co. I am now 77 yrs old....23 yrs ago. I keep getting requests to buy long term ins. in the mail, but when I call and tell them about CMT, they cannot sell it to me. Some of us do need a lot of care as our age increases and they do think we are a risk. Jeanann
