Guest guest
Hi Jerica, you will get plenty of support from this list. And don't feel bad for not researching beforehand. You have since learnt the truth and have made an educated decision. It is not our fault doctors do not inform us of the dangers when we become new mothers. Unfortunately, I have vaxed my oldest child up to 18 months. When I learned the truth about vax, I decided not to do any more without research. Needless to say, the research led me to not vaxing ever again. I am so sorry you had to find out the way you did. I was lucky enough to have a friend who pointed me in the right direction. And good on your sister for making the same choice to not vax. It will be easier for you in the long run, having the support from her. I can understand her reasons for not mentioning her status to you. But, many of us feel it is worth the negative reactions we may get, if we can save a child. It is hard. But worth it when someone listens and starts to question for themselves. Fieldman Intro and my story Hello all, I just joined the list and thought I'd give an intro and my story. I'm 35 and had my first child in May. She had the Hep B in the hospital because the nurse there told me it was required for school. I had been treated for preeclampsia and was coming off magnesium sulfate and didn't have any solid info to go on or any way to research. I trusted the docs. (stupid me) When we came home I noticed my baby would sometimes move her eyes back and forth really fast like she was having some kind of little seizure. I mentioned it to the doc but they just waved it off. It happened quite a few times that first month or so but I still don't know what it was. We took her for her shots at 2 months and the nurse gave them -- soon as she finished she said we could go home and left the room. As we put the baby in the car seat (she had cried but was asleep pretty quickly after) I noticed she looked very pale. My husband noticed as well but we didn't think much of it because we had not had time to really read the papers we were given. When a nurse comes in with a bunch of syringes and papers and tells you to sign stuff you don't really feel like they're giving you time for research. I guess again I was stupid in not looking into this stuff before I went. I didn't have any idea what the possible reactions could be. Paleness was listed as a severe allergic reaction on the paper they gave me, and this troubled me no end. I asked a couple more pediatricians about it and everyone said she got pale because she was " upset about the shots. " No one took it seriously except me and my husband. I finally decided -- no more shots. I can't take that chance now that she's already had a reaction. She had 7 vaccinations that day (3 shots and one oral with one of the shots a combo shot). Now I have no idea what caused the reaction, but the worst thing is that the medical community gave me papers that said it's an allergic reaction and no one is taking it seriously. I reported it to the database but I hadn't told the doc within 30 days (I second guessed myself all month). With all of the pro vaccine posters and literature I was given, I felt maybe I was overreacting. I didn't trust my own judgement. Better late than never though, I guess. I started reading up on vaccines, reading the inserts of the stuff my child was given (Pediarix among others), and I got a chance to talk to my sister about it. Her 2 yr old daughter has a speech delay. She can only say a few words and only just started saying actual words (Hi, bye, etc.) recently. My sis told me that my niece had been talking and then she took her for shots and after that was lethargic and unresponsive for most of the day. (My sis probably didn't go to the ER because she and I are alike in second guessing ourselves and trusting docs!) We now think the vaccines adversely affected her abilities. My sister didn't know that you could opt out (we're in Texas). I had no idea, either! Everyone says these things are " required " and no one mentions choice. My sister also had an issue with CPS and told me they " forced " her to take the kids in for shots. She used that word. She said she was told her kids would be taken away if she didn't get shots for them and that the caseworker actually drove them to the clinic. (!!!) My sister hadn't mentioned any of this to me because she thought I was pro vaccine and that I'd judge her etc. My question now is whether to claim a medical or religiuos exemption. My investigations have allowed me to understand that I can claim either or both because I now understand that these vaccines are against my faith and I can not morally or in any way with a clear conscience let my child have any more of them. I can claim medical because of the reaction she had, but I think if I approach her pediatrician then she won't sign the exemption and try to blow off the whole reaction. Also, I don't know of any pediatricians who are ok with parents making choices on this issue in TX. I need some help finding a good doctor for my child. Thanks everyone. Guest guest
Hi Jerica! I'm so sorry about what you went through and your sister too. Like you, I was conned and my baby suffered tremendously. Big cyber hug from me to you. I would highly recommend your sister reading up on the Texas law and getting acquainted with a vaccine lawyer. Go to www.thinktwice.com for potential lawyers in your area to fight the CPS issue. It sounds like her civil rights were severely violated. They will only walk all over you if you give them that power. That is something to remember. From what I am hearing, it is so much easier to do a religious exemption because with a medical the doctor usually has to give a time limit - what vaccines are exempt - blah blah blah. In the meantime I would strongly suggest that you try to educate your doctor. My son's pediatrician has been very open to everything...I even gave her a copy of the Vaccine Safety Manual by Neil Z. . She is the only doctor in my state now that will not pressure you to vax or make you sign anything. I wouldn't doubt it if she leaves the practice altogether too. She is an awesome doctor and very concerned about kids. Truly in it for all of the right reasons.... Guest guest
Welcome, Jerica! Sorry it took a bad experience to bring you here, though. You are very observant for a first time mom to figure out what was happening with your daughter. Actually, for exemptions, you likely can't claim a medical exemption because it has to be signed by a doctor. If you did get the doc to agree, this wouldn't mean you could opt out of all vaccines, just the vaccines, or the component in them, that your doc states there was a reaction to. You're better off with a religious exemption anyway. Use it when the time comes. It is NOT necessary now unless you enroll your child in daycare/school. Real life doesn't require vaccination. That stupid nurse who told you the Hep B was required for school should be aware of exemptions and she should also know that you are not required to have the Hep B vaccine at birth. You can get them all right before school starts. Depending on your state laws, they might say wait a certain number of weeks/months in between but you do NOT have to start at birth and follow any " recommended schedule. " Anyway, welcome! Guest guest
Hi everyone! My name is Connie and I live in , SD. I wanted to tell you about my lap band experience and ask Anyone if they've had a similar experience or knew anyone that did.. I was banded 1-11-08 in South Dakota. I started out at 250 pounds. No matter what I did I wasn't really losing weight. The doctor that did the Lap for me moved out of state and I got a new doctor. A very respected Surgeon in my city. Finally in January of this year, I had a barium swallow test and found I Also had a stricture in my lower esophagus..My doctor did an EGD and found I Had a hiatal hernia that was coming up through my band, and my band wasn't Positioned correctly, it was too low. So I had a hiatal hernia repair and lap band revision where he moved the Band up. I immediately felt the difference, I had never really felt full before. Shortly after that I started pbing all the time. I have no fluid at all in my band. He did another barium Swallow and it showed that only a trickle of fluid was going through to my Stomach. The rest was just sitting at the bottom of my esophagus and I was Pbing it back up. I then started waking up several times a night coughing And choking and having to throw up. I'm so afraid I'm going to choke to Death or aspirate into my lungs and end up with aspiration pneumonia. He did another EGD this last week to try to dilate things. It didn't work. So now he wants to do some sort of study this coming week where they put a Catheter down my nose into my esophagus and stomach to see if my esophagus is relaxing like It should. He also said he'd possibly do another EGD and try and dilate again or to go in and remove a stitch or 2 From my diaphragm from my hernia repair. I'm thinking my doctor doesn't have a clue what is wrong and is grasping at Straws. I'm so far in debt from this procedure now, I'll never get out. All In all I've only lost 46 pounds in a year and a half. Most this year because I can't keep anything down!! I'd really appreciate some opinions from all of you. I'm so confused, I'm About ready to have the band removed and forget it. I'm getting more and more depressed over this and just want it fixed, I can t live like this!! I just re-read my previous statement, I am depressed but not THAT depressed Ok?? Thanks for letting my vent! Connie
