Guest guest
Does the nightly reflux coincide with the bedtime snack? I always hear you should not eat too close to bedtime as the food can still be in the pouch when you lay down. Before heading off for a slight unfill (which you may need to do anyway), I would try stopping the bedtime snack and drinking a glass of water before retiring to wash out the pouch. Just a thought... BTW, great job on the weight loss! Jill in AZ 10/25/03 243/172/123 //> Hello all, I have been banded since Feb 27,2004, and happier now > than ever in my life! Guest guest
I would agree completely with that. Last nite we were out late and ate supper very late. I stayed up over an hour later than usual (and am suffering for it this morning) to let the too-late supper settle and move through. Otherwise I would have been tossing and turning all night from the reflux, which would have been even worse than losing an hour of sleep. YMMV of course. dan Thursday, September 9, 2004, 7:57:51 AM, you wrote: j> Does the nightly reflux coincide with the bedtime snack? Guest guest
Well, I will take your advise (both of you) and pay attention to how late I have eaten as I sure do not want another night like that ever again! It is so hard to get out of the old bad habits I was in prebanding. Live and learn huh? Thanks again. > > j> Does the nightly reflux coincide with the bedtime snack? Guest guest
OK, I can tell I got another year older! I am not keeping up with computer abbreviations. There are 2 that I have seen. This one Dan, YMMV...and another one I saw yesterday. I can't remember exactly for sure but I think it was NSV. Something like that. Would someone educate me? Thanks! Guest guest
AHHH! THANK YOU! Now I don't have to feel old anymore! Take care! Guest guest
NSV is a " non scale victory " , like being able to buy in the regular store, crossing your legs, whatever. Sometimes those things happen even when the scale doesn't move, and of course they happen as it does move, too. YMMV is an old " internet expression " which means Your Mileage May Vary, just like they say on the stickers on new cars. It is used to indicate just what it says, in generic terms. Sorry to add to confusion. dan Thursday, September 9, 2004, 10:01:26 AM, you wrote: T> OK, I can tell I got another year older! I am not keeping up with computer T> abbreviations. Guest guest
Most obese people have a poor lower-esophageal sphincter that encourages reflux, even without a too-tight fill. for this reason, it's very important for us to not eat or drink within about 2 hrs of bedtime. This includes meds. ONE hour before bedtime, drink a glass of water to rinse out the pouch. If you STILL have reflux (wwhich is quite daqngerous because of the chance of aspiration pneumonia - been there, done that, felt like croaking for 6 weeks), then there ar4 behavioral things to add to try to stop the reflux - and avoiding citrus (qacid) is about #2 on the list! Let us know if not eating close to bedtime does NOT help. more info on reflux:http://www.gerd.com/faq/gerd-faq.htm http://www.aboutgerd.org/ Sandy R > Hello all, I have been banded since Feb 27,2004, and happier now > than ever in my life! Guest guest
Thanks Sandy, I guess this is still a learning process huh? With every fill or adjustment I learn something new. I will try your advice, I am willing to try anything to help this. What is your opinion on using Gaviscon tablets for this? I used it successfully for acid reflux prebanding and was wondering if it would hurt the band to use them now? Thanks. > > Hello all, I have been banded since Feb 27,2004, and happier now > > than ever in my life! Guest guest
You should really be having NO reflux. Just trying to cover it up with meds is not the solution. You need to prevent it. Even ONE episode of reflux at night has caused the very serious aspiration pneumonia, which will set you back months. But, to answer your question, an occasional med like Pepcid Complete is better than gaviscon. It is what most docs would suggest if needed, and what i use. (people at goal with a good fill sometimes have a very occasional reflux that can be treated with the behavioral things plus pepcid - this is different than the reflux-prevention essential during the weight-loss phase). But, again, if you have ongoing reflux, even with the preventative things we've suggested, you need some fill out. You must work hard to protect your band, if you want it to last the rest of your life. Please NEVER allow dangerous things to continue, just for the sake of a possibly-gfaster weight loss. this usually backfire4s on you.
