Guest guest
I've been doing curves 3X/week religiously since I was released by my surgeon for normal activity. I love it. I have a treadmill in my house and was purposefully NOT using it until I hit a plateau (so that I would have something to " add " to break the plateau). Well.... I've been stagnant for 10 days now and got on the treadmill yesterday, like I promised myself I would do. I did a good, strong, sweaty workout. My plan is to now do Curves 3X/week and the treadmill on alternate days. However, I was suprised to find that my shins *hurt* today. The last time I had lost a bunch of weight, I was very active.... I danced, I jogged, I did advanced step aerobics. That much bouncing on a 245lb frame left me with shin splints AND plantar fasciitis. (That was about two years ago) Is it possible that I have left myself vulnerable to shin splints? Or, are there muscles on the front of my shins that could just be complaining for not being used in so long? I don't know much about exercise physiology and want to make sure I'm not going to injure myself again. Getting injured was the beginning of the end of my last weight loss. Guest guest
I'd suggest talking to your family doc about getting a referral to a physical therapist, who can design a safe exercise plan just for you, conmsidering your weight, strength, and any medical problems. This is a benefit of many insurances that most people don't know even exists - take advantage of it! (Especially if your ins. refused to pay for banding! grrr!) It's easy to get injured with an incorrect exercise plan, and that can really set you back. sandy r > I've been doing curves 3X/week religiously since I was released by my > surgeon for normal activity. That would be my bet. If you're like most of us, you're going to overdo it. At first just walk on the tread for five minutes. Don't worry about speed or anything. Then go to ten, fifteen, more speed, etc, as tolerated. I've hurt myself before by trying to do too much too fast. Waht would you expect from a compulsive eater, worker, etc? dan Dan Lester, Boise, ID honu@... www.mylapband.tk Dr. Ortiz, Tijuana, 4/28/03 323/211/199 Age
