Guest guest
Brilliant Pat, I am so glad the boswellia is working for you - I know I am pretty impressed with the spray on stuff I have that contains boswellia, arnica, msm and ilex. The osteo-arthritis in my middle finger of my right hand has been playing up the past couple of days probably because of the very high humidity from all the rain, and I find the spray really helpful. As for the fish oil capsules - very good idea. Excellent for the heart too. My Doc told me at time of diagnosis with hypot to go get some Omega 3 fish oil capsules and take them with meals. Glad to hear you doing well. M. > > Hi dear forum members, > > I just thought that i'd post a positive note. > My doc suggested that I try using Boswellia serrata ( I take 2 > tablets a day). Guest guest
Anti-inflammatory effect of alpha-linolenic acid and its mode of action through the inhibition of nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxide synthase gene expression via NF-kappaB and mitogen-activated protein kinase pathways Ren J, Chung SH. Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy, College of Pharmacy, Kyung Hee University, Seoul 130-701, Korea. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) isolated from Actinidia polygama fruits exhibits potent anti-inflammatory activity with an unknown mechanism. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of ALA on pharmacological and biochemical actions in inflammation, we examined the effect of ALA on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced nitric oxide (NO) production in the murine macrophages cell line, RAW 264.7. We found that ALA has a strong inhibitory effect on the production of NO. ALA also inhibited inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) gene expressions induced by LPS. To explore the mechanisms associated with the inhibition of iNOS gene expression by ALA, we investigated its effect on LPS-induced nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) activation. Treatment with ALA reduced a translocation of NF-kappaB subunit and NF-kappaB-dependent transcriptional activity. The activation of NF-kappaB was inhibited by prevention of the degradation of inhibitory factor-kappaBalpha. We also found that ALA inhibited LPS-induced phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs). In addition, the antinociceptive effect of ALA was also assessed by means of the acetic acid-induced abdominal constriction test and Randall-Selitto assay. ALA (5 and 10 mg/kg) showed the potent antinociceptive effects in these animal models. Taken together, these results suggest that ALA downregulates inflammatory iNOS, COX-2, and TNF-alpha gene expressions through the blocking of NF-kappaB and MAPKs activations in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells, which may be the mechanistic basis for the anti-inflammatory effect of ALA. Epub 2007 Jun 2.Hi P,That's good to see something working. As with the above report, and many more of late on natural anti-inflammatories,they all seem to down-regulate iNOS (Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase), COX2, and TNF-alpha etc.I brought a chunk of frankincense back from the Middle East on my trip there in c1981-3. I wonder if I might have to 'extract' a bit and see what happens?Dawn would probably do well on that product (Boswellia ), or similar.best wishesBob > Hi dear forum members, > I just thought that i'd post a positive note. Guest guest
Hi Pat - Oh, this is so good to hear because I was so concerned when you were suffering such pain, and couldn't get rid of it. I wonder whether this would help . He constantly gets what he calls his "Twilps" - these are twinges that make him yelp - hence the name 'twilps' he has given them. These can occur anywhere in his body at any time of the day. These are quite severe shooting pains that come out of the blue, mainly on hands, elbows, ankles and toes, and after he yelps (quite loudly at times) they disappear just as quickly. Has anybody any idea what could be causing these. He takes Omega Fish Oil (2 tablets daily), 4 grains Armour, 350 mgs Niacin and 300 mgs CoEnzymeQ10 to help lower his cholesterol and high BP. He has suffered with these twilps for about 5 years on and off, but they are fairly regular these days. Did you buy this from your local health food store or from an Internet pharmacy? Luv - Sheila I just thought that i'd post a positive note. A while ago, i posted a plea for help when I was having terrible 'arthritic like' pains in my hands, wrists, etc and stabbing pains in my hips. Those pains have now eased enormously. I've found something that helps me quite a bit. I'm writing it here in case it might help some other forum members, but of course check with your doc / naturopath etc to make sure that it will suit you and your body. My doc suggested that I try using Boswellia serrata ( I take 2 tablets a day). They also suggested that I increase my intake of fish oil capsules to 3 capsules, 3 times a day. I'm extremely happy to report that most of the pain has literally disappeared. I still have a few twinges and I'm not totally mobile, but I was limping before, but when I was out and about the other day I was able to almost 'leap' out of the 4WD I was in. Quite extraordinary really because I was in such pain not that long ago.No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Hi Sheila, I can't get my machine to behave this morning, there may be a DNS problem. (Denial of Service attack from somewhere perhaps) .....I'll try again. Boswellia Serrata is incense, valuable from antiquity. The natural anti-inflammatories all seem to block iNOS, COX2 and TNF- alpha (bit like steroids I suspect).... I brought a one (+/-) pound block of incense back from the middle east twenty years ago; may have to set about using it. iNOS ~ is inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase COX2 ~ Cyclooxygenase 2 (otherwise Prostaglandin G/H synthase 2 ) TNF alpha ~ Tumour Necrosis Factor -alpha Boswellic acid looks a bit like cortisol to me, so may be an acceptable form of 'steroidal' anti-inflammatory with fewer potential side-effects. COX1 and COX2 are the point at which non-steroidal anti- inflammatories work (or otherwise). If this works well for Patersonia, there seems no reason it won't work for too. Getting the inflammatory response under control should drop high blood pressure. 300mg CoQ10 may be too much, as might be 350mg Niacin ~ it may be undoing the effect of vit B12 ~ hence the 'twilps' (look for l'Hermitte's syndrome ~ shooting pains ) My experience with folic acid: I found helpful in improving short- term memory, but it can conceal a deficiency in vit B12 that may cause permanent nerve damage ~ whether or not the 'official test' for vit B12 tells the whole story is another matter ~ I didn't have pernicious anemia according to my lab tests ~ so why did the folic acid (x10 the normal dose at 5mg/day) help my short-term memory? Looking for the cortisol level now. best wishes Bob > > Hi Pat - Oh, this is so good to hear because I was so concerned when you were suffering such pain, and couldn't get rid of it. Guest guest
Thanks for thinking of me Sheila. I was pretty upset before and the pain was waking me up and was with me constantly through the day. I tried to stay positive but it hurt quite a lot. I've been taking the Boswellia and the extra fish oil capsules for about two weeks now. I think they say that the Boswellia can take a few weeks to work, so either I am responding to it quicker than usual or else it is the additional amounts of fish oil that are doing the trick. I can completely relate to 's " Twilps " . Your description is very similar to what I experienced, mainly in my hips but also in my hands. I used to yell out too! I still get the occasional 'Twilp', however NO WAY as bad as before. I was even trying pain management techniques for the pain before! As I mentioned, the pain hasn't completely disappeared, but I've noticed a very marked and noticeable improvement and can walk again with no real difficulty. What a relief. I just hope that it lasts. I now take 9 fish oil capsules daily (3 with each main meal). This is up from the 2-4 (on average) that I was taking before. Perhaps could try 'upping' his dose of fish oil if the doc etc thinks it is ok for him to do so. I've noticed no ill effects, only improvements. My capsules are a bit stronger than most. They contain Concentrated Omega-3 triglycerides-fish 994.6mg, equiv. EPA 300mg and DHA 200mg + d-alpha-Tocopherol (equiv. Nat Vit E 25IU) 16.8mg. They also have a vanilla coating because I can't stand to eat or smell seafood! I just like diving with them, not eating them! Mind you, I'm very thankful to the fish right now. I bought the Boswellia complex from my pharmacy. It is made by a Aust company called 'Medi-herb' and is a practitioner line. It contains Boswellia serrata, Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizome, Apium graveolens (celery) and Zingiber officinale (ginger). There might be something similar over there. I've heard that Turmeric is fantastic for arthritic like pains. A lady I know gives it to her elderly dog and the dog now has a new lease on life. Quite incredible to see the difference in that animal. I hope this info is useful for . Guest guest
Thanks . Your spray sounds good & I'm happy that it is helping you with your osteo-arthritis. Arnica is supposed to be very good stuff. Do you use the fish oil capsules regularly? I'm amazed at the decrease in my pain levels after using higher doses of fish oil + the boswellia complex tablets. Guest guest
I take one softgel capsule with dinner each night - that is what my Dr recommended and I've stuck to for 2 yrs now. I take pharmaceutical grade RxOmega-3 Factors with EPA 400mg/DHA 200mg. The brand is natural factors if anyone is looking. I make sure I keep them in the fridge; the last bottle I kept on the bedside table along with all the others and found that before I had got thru half the bottle of 120 they had gone rancid - and that's with ac fully working and the house temp being kept down to 76f. I learnt that lesson the hard way but then I guess it is summer time over here. And that's another reason why I never buy more than one months supply of my Synthroid - so I make sure its fresh and most likely a new batch. I asked the pharmacist at Publix where I buy them and he said they get them in each month; they don't keep a stock on the shelf. I thought that was pretty good seeing as they will have may people on the same brand; their quantity management appears to be pretty good. > > Thanks . > > Your spray sounds good & I'm happy that it is helping you with your > osteo-arthritis. Guest guest
Thanks P thats very interesting, I shall have to get some and see what happens next time I get paid. I am assuming it is easy to get over here? Thanks also Bob for thinking of me lotsa luv Dawnx
Guest guest
Dawn, Try upping your fish oil capsules too. I'm not sure if it is the extra fish oil capsules and/or the boswellia and/or both of them together that has done the trick, but I feel A LOT LOT BETTER now. Quite amazing really. Hope that it works for you Dawn! I went to see a naturopath today and she has suggested a change of diet for me + she wants me to come back in a couple of weeks so we can start working on the autoimmune component, so I wait with interest to see what happens. If I have any further 'breakthroughs' that may be worthwhile sharing with others, I'll let you know. Fingers crossed that the boswellia (+ celery, turmeric and ginger) helps you too!!!!!!!!!
