Katy,

After and sometimes while eating my protein I can eat salads by

cutting the lettuce into strips as if it for a a taco and it goes

down easier. The larger torn lettuce tends to arrive at the opening

in pieces large enough to block it just like the skins of cucumbers,

peppers and tomatoes. Be liberal with the salad dressing.

Sure, salads are ok, but generally they provide almost NO nutrition.

The lettuce is mostly water, and has so few vits that it is basically

useless - especially head lettuce. the mixed greens are a tiny bit

better, but still, IMO, useless.

Remember to concentrate on eating protein first, then veggies, then a

bit of fruit or salad, if you have room - which you likely will not.

Solid protein includes things like meat, chicken, and fish, then

veggies. I consider salads a soft food, because i can eqat a huge

salad with a tight fill - this tells me that it is going right

through. Stews are especially good, since the meat will be soft and

moist. Soft white fish is also especially good, since it is moist and

easily chewed.

Tuna, slmon, or chicken " salad' on crackers is good for lunch - lots

of protein and good fiber. Be sure it is moist, with plenty of lo-fat

mayo or miracle whip. I loved saldines and oysters too. I found it

hard to get in the fiber i needed without a 1/2 cup of high-fiber

cereal in the morning or as a snack, and good fiber crackers with

lunch or for a snack.

You have so little room in your pouch (later with a fill, if not now)

that you need to think primarily of not wasting the space with

anytghing not excellent nutr4ition. The occasional treat is fine, of

course.

Try different protein sources to see what works for you -

For snacks, good protein ones are a hard-bolied egg, soft beef jerky,

a fiber cereal, a piece of str5ong cheese. Sandy R

Just to add to Sandy's thought...

I have tried salads a couple of times, and in my opinion, really well-

chewed lettuce is nasty. It just doesn't taste the same. I would much

rather eat broccoli or green beans.

You are right about the taste. It is the blue cheese or balsamic

vinegar dressings that I like the taste of. Those and the carrot

pieces, peeled cucumbers , onions and skinless tomato pieces. Could

just toss the lettuce and use the raw veggies with a dip or fondue.

Thanks for a great idea.

I think this is the food I missed the most when I was restricted. I

had a salad and I thought it was the best thing I had eaten in my

life. I am a big veggie person. I cut them up really really tiny

now of course. But the best thing is eating grape tomatoes. They

are small, easy to chew, and a little sweet. I grew up growing my

own tomatoes, and there is nothing like a fresh picked ripe tomato

as opposed to a store bought hot house one.

I know this comic named Pinette, his humor is geared towards

the heavyset audience. The first time I saw him he weighed about

375 lbs. about 3 years ago. I saw him at Caroline's in NY this past

summer, and he had lost about 70, didn't get into specifics how. He

mentioned the doctor told him to eat a lot of salad as a meal. He

said salad is not a meal, salad is a promisary note that food will

soon be on it's way!!! LOL He is extremely funny if anyone ever

gets a chance to look into him.

Sandy, I also wanted to ponder, and I will look this up myself: I

can see where iceberg lettuce has no nutrition, but I've always been

under the assumption that the darker the leaf of the lettuce, the

healther it is. There is more iron in it. It also contributes to

the fiber count needed. Tomatoes are pretty healthy, they contain

vitiman C, which is needed to use iron in our systems. I also like

putting a few slices of fruit, like an apple, or a fresh orange. I

guess I am a sensory type of person and I need the variety. If I

couldn't eat veggies and salad anymore, I'd go postal. The only

thing I don't like is tuna and lettuce together. Something about

the combination turns me off, even before the band. I understand

the concept of eating the protein first, then the veggies, and salad

and so on, but it is really boring to eat the same thing all the

time. I use one meal every few days as veggies just to break it

up. Just my honest opinion.

Have a good day!!!
