Working with this doctor is an absolute pleasure. He is one of the most concerned and caring doctors I have yet to meet - next to my naturopathic Dr. The first question out of his mouth every time I talk to him is "How are you feeling?".

We discussed the game plan for combating my papillary thyroid cancer dx. After 6 years and 3 rounds of radioactive iodine (RAI) my thyroglobulin levels are still detectible and fluctuating. His goal is to stabilize my Tg. Most doctors seek a 0 Tg level but he would like a stable number. That to him means that A) it is not cancer but thyroid tissue or B) the cancer is inactive. I would take either at this point and no further radiation. If the Tg starts to fluctuate his plan is to up my dose of Iodoral by 12.5 mg. He had me pick up a bottle of 50 mg Iodoral today in case my Tg comes back higher on the next months labs. I guess I am truly becoming part of his clinical study on ThyCa. He asked if I would do it on my first visit and I agreed.

I have adrenal issues we believe. He took my BP when laying down and then standing up and it dropped 15 points so we are doing a 24 hour urine test tomorrow and hopefully will have results next week. All success with the protocol hinges on the parts functioning correctly and adrenals are key.

Dr. Brownstein says we will test thyroid levels once a month for the next three months. He will follow up with me each month for labs and to see how I am feeling - almost unheard of with doctors. I am pleased.

His parting words to me were "Don't worry we will get you feeling better" and then he gave me a hug. I am blessed to have a doctor that cares about me as a person and not a chart.
