I think we all agree that Iodine can be absorbed

through the skin....

What we are trying to find out is whether the patch

test has ANY validity.

That is, does the patch test correlate at all with the amount

of iodine in the body, or the degree of iodine deficiency...

Hi Zoe,

Pat here.

How are you?

Zoe, I think you are a believer in the value of the

iodine skin patch test. (Correct me if I am wrong!)

I appreciate your willingness and ability to keep an open

mind and not confuse two important but different issues:

- validity of topical application as 'Treatment'.

- validity of topical application/disappearance as 'Test'.

Re your

" Research Question.

When you paint iodine on the skin, how long does it take

for the stain to disappear? If you have been painting Iodine

for a while, has the rate of disappearance changed?... "

I (Pat) don't think " the opponents of the patch test ...

would necessarily say " the stain should take the

same amount of time to disappear no matter how

much Iodine is in the body. "

I suspect there are too many variables here:

- amount of iodine used

- form of iodine used

- where iodine is placed on the body

- evaporation rates

- differing baselines of individual's levels

- changes in the skin's ability to reduce brown iodine

to clear iodide etc.

But I have no special expertise in experimental design.

My experience though is that Peat, Derry, Brownstein,

Abraham et al are quite approachable and responsive.

If you are really interested in your own 'study' you might

want to discuss with them, and others, what reasonable

guidelines would be.

Good luck in your efforts.

Best,

Pat
