Dan said //so you're normal. How many times have you been considered

normal? Right? //

I had to laugh! It made me think of the time when the doctor put me

on " fast track " status for WLS because I was " uncomplicated. " I

thought, " Would you mind telling my husband that I'm uncomplicated!?! "

ROFL

Anyway, being normal is fun. I feel SO much more normal when I get

into someone else's car without fear that the seatbelt is going to

cut me in half. I feel so much more normal when I can put the tray

down in front of me on an airplane. I feel so much more normal when

I can stretch out after exercise and put my hands flat on the floor.

I feel so much more normal ordering a regular meal at a restaurant

without trying to manipulate it to become an Atkins meal (the last

diet I tried). The list goes on and on. I'm so grateful to feel

more normal than I've ever felt in my life.

Carol - write to this GP and put her straight once and for all. I

would indicate that any doctor who has never bothered to do the research to

find the adrenal/thyroid connection should not be treating thyroid conditions.

Even on the patient information leaflet that is tucked into the package of

levothyroxine tablets tells patients to " Tell their doctor - if they have

an adrenal problem " . It is well known that taking thyroid hormone

replacement can cause an adrenal crisis in some patients - there is loads of

research she should have checked out, rather than trying to make out to you it

doesn't exist.

As for her having been researching the urine tests on the web

and being unable to find ANY sites that were reliable, then please copy these

references and tell her, that as you are not medically qualified, you DID

manage to find some, and that you find it upsetting that she is unable to find

them.  The following are just a few of the citations to the studies.

I would also ask her that if she believes Cortisol would make

ANYBODY better, then why the reluctance to give you a trial - and tell her that

surely that is what doctors are there for. Grrrr! - I would love to be there

when you give her this information. Be brave Carol, put her in her place once

and for all, and tell her that she MUST CONSIDER YOUR 24 HOUR THYROID URINE

TEST. Don't give her chance to try to denigrate the reputation of Genova, copy

out the attached Genova Quality Assurance and ask her to read it. Ask her also

to let you have any specific questions that she is not happy with the answers

you have given her. We have to fight them on their own ground - only this time,

they had better get used to the fact that they are now dealing with an organisation

like Thyroid Patient Advocacy - so they had better watch themselves :o)

I had the blood test done and as I thought they

all came back normal, doc rang me with the results she said my ferritin was 36

range 15---150 and to say that I shouldn't be taking the cortisol long term

because of the side effects, and she had been researching the urine tests on

the web and couldn't find any sites that said they were reliable, and the

cortisol would make anyone feel better, and that it's only me that believes

that there is something wrong with my thyroid, but she did say that my liver

function had come down a bit I would have thought if it was PBC it would be

going up, she thought it was awful that Dr Steele on This morning prog

had said that some peoples results might not be normal for them, I always

thought you went to a GP for help, NOT ROUND HERE YOU DON'T

Its because the British people don't know how to complain, not because they

don't pay for the NHS, (which we all do anyway!!) My aunt says that I shouldn't

talk to the doctor like I do, I reply that I know the NHS rules and if the doc

can't remember them I can get him (or her) a printed copy if they should need

one!!

We are happy enough to complain about vets, food, or anything other

than the " free " medical " care "
