Guest guest
I also get iodine burns if I apply Lugol's (or iodine tincture) directly to the skin, so I now mix Lugol's with a carrier oil for topical application. Lugol's just on a keratosis is okay though. It sounds like people have different levels of tolerance. I have a scar from applying 7% iodine tincture to my inner arm--won't do that again! Guest guest
Can you imagine swallowing the stuff? I noticed swallowing 8 drops of Lugol's solution in a fourth a glass of water even with a couple teaspoons of apple cider vinegar added burned to swallow, and had my throat and mouth secreting excess mucous for about a half an hour after I had swallowed the iodine 'tonic.' After experiencing two nights in a row of having insomnia, even shortness of breath, and pain in my leg, and being advised to stop supplementing with iodine and only take it in small amounts, I think I will try that. It probably only took a full week for me to reach iodine toxicity/shock symptoms, which means I must have not been very iodine deficient to begin with. Now, I'll just take 1-2 drops every other day and work up to taking 1 or 2 drops a day of Lugol's solution. 48mg is a bit much for me, but 6-12mg may be just right. We'll see. And perhaps the decreased dosage will prevent any burning of my esophagus/digestive tract from the alkaline iodine. Hopefully, I didn't give myself cancer or do any permanent damage from taking such a high dose of iodine for a week. > > I also get iodine burns if I apply Lugol's (or iodine tincture) > directly to the skin, so I now mix Lugol's with a carrier oil for > topical application. Guest guest
I feel that it took a long time to become Iodine depleted, so I have been taking my time building up Iodine. I use sea veggies every day. According to the package, I am getting about 150% of the RDA for Iodine each day from the sea veggies. I gargle twice with 5 drops of Lugol's in about 6 ounces of water every morning. The ounce or so of diluted Lugol's left in the cup after gagling (containing, I estimate, 1 drop of Lugol's) , I dilute with about the same volume of water, then drink it, followed by a few ounces of water as a chaser. I also put 2 drops of Lugol's in about 12 ounces of water, let it sit overnight so the Iodine evaporates (leaving just the KI), then use my neti pot to cleanse my sinuses every morning. I experience no burning from the dilute Iodine nasal rinse, the dilute Lugol's I gargle with, nor with the very dilute Lugol's I drink. Been doing this close to a year now. Guest guest
I was thinking of mixing some Lugol's or preferebaly tincture of iodine or similar if I can get it anywhere in Australia to some oil. What oil did you use as a carrier and what ration did you mix it in? Thanks, Jan > > > > > I also get iodine burns if I apply Lugol's (or iodine tincture) > > directly to the skin, so I now mix Lugol's with a carrier oil for > > topical application. Guest guest
Thanks for the warning Nina. What ratio do you mix the Lugol's with the iodine in? and what oil do you prefer to use as a carrier? Guest guest
I put a little coconut oil in my palm and mix a few drops of Lugols into it for topical application. The figure cited before on this list is that approx 12% of it gets absorbed. I'm assuming apricot or jojoba or any of the oils commonly used for homemade cosmetics would work fine. Shea butter and red palm oil aren't great though--there is something in both turns a weird color when it contacts Lugols. Nina
Guest guest
what is the approximate ratio for your oil? 1/2 cup oil to 5 drops lugols or what? medusa Re:Yeow! Lugol's much stronger than Iosol! >I put a little coconut oil in my palm and mix a few drops of Lugols > into it for topical application.
