Guest guest
So pleased you have got a date at last and once it is all over, I hope everything works well for you. I don't know anything about the operation personally, but I am sure there are some people here who can help you. It would be great to have somebody's diary from start to finish, especially if you can back this up with photographs (before and after) . We could put this in our files for others to read and post the photographs in the photo's section. This is the kind of story we need. Sounds interesting about the continuous stitch. Sounds as if this way, there won't be much of a scar. What a nice Christmas present ;o) Luv -a Sheila Hi all,Just wanted to let you know that I have just been given my op date by the Radcliffe: 20th Dec !I will keep a daily diary for a while, pre and post op and will post it up once a week if any one would be interested?I will also get some pre and post op pictures taken aswell..Are there any helpful tips from anyone who's had the same, with regards to how to look after my wound, and what to expect in the first few days? I have already been given loads of info from the hospital, but it's never the same as personal exp.On a side note, it may sound a bit weird, but I'm kinda looking forward to having my "continous stitch" as it will be under the skin and will have a little bead at either end, sticking out from my neck, which should be a talking point for a few days. I did ask if they could match the colour of them to my fav necklace...lolAlso I have been told that I will be on Thyroxine, and that the starting dose will be 75mcgs, going up to 125, which apparently " is the normal dose for everyone unless they need a tweak which will either be 100 or 150 mcgs"Anyway, I shall let you know how I get on...Regards,x( Multi-nodular Goitre causing compression to airway) No virus found in this incoming message.Checked by AVG Free Edition. Guest guest
Hi , Hope all goes well with your surgery. An acquaintance who had the op some years before I met her, had a very neat scar which I only noticed when she showed it to me while we were talking about our thyroid experiences. I hope you do well on thyroxine, but do remember there are other meds out there is it doesn't get you well. As to looking after your wound. I had some packages of Convatec DuoDerm hydrocolloid dressing prescribed after a serious burn on my leg- this took 7 weeks to heal and 2 years later is almost invisible and is completely flat. I still had some left and used it when I had surgery on my foot earlier this year. The surgeon commented on how neatly it was healing, so I told him what I was doing. Brilliant he said- good stuff! So why isn't everybody given this if it is so good. I suggest you try to get some. It is a bit messy when there is dead tissue to clean away and smells awful, but it does encourage neat healing. I will keep a daily diary for a while, pre and post op and will post it up once a week if any one would be interested? I will also get some pre and post op pictures taken aswell.. Are there any helpful tips from anyone who's had the same, with regards to how to look after my wound, and what to expect in the first few days? Anyway, I shall let you know how I get on...
