LOL Still got the old brain fog thing going for me.

I'm on synthroid .112 and cytomel 10mc 3x daily. I noticed a bit of relief from the fatigue - I don't need a nap now, but I still feel tired and my weight isn't pouring off my body. I had wanted to go on Thyrolar because I've heard such good things about it but it was a hassel with my insurance. I may ask my Doc to put in a special request now that the cytomel isn't helping like I had hoped. I have a terrific doc who is so open to helping and listening. I think I'm one of the few lucky ones in that area.

Good luck!
Guest guest
Thanks, ! I'm glad you have a supportive MD, I hope he can get around the insurance snafu. I've already decided to challenge my HMO with the New England Journal article WHEN they turn me down. I SO hate HMO's! And Knoll (the makers of Synthroid) are villanous as well if it's true that they try to suppress T4+T3 studies!
Guest guest
Hi Jane We have learned to recommend that people take any T3 containing products in a split dose. Some people do fine taking it all at once in the morning, but others, like you, find they get a 'slump' in the middle of the afternoon and just want to have a nap. Try taking half your dose of Armour and T3 before breakfast and the other half of each tablet in the Afternoon and see how you feel. Cortef should be taken with your food every time. Just make sure you do not take iron or calcium supplements anywhere near to thyroid hormones - they must be taken at least 3 to 4 hours apart from each other. You are unlikely to get any side effects unless you are taking too much. These would be palpitations, sweating, feeling dizzy and generally spaced out. If this happens, simply stop your T3 for a couple of days and you should feel OK again once it is out of your system. Luv - Sheila Hello I'm taking 25mg of Cytomel now (under Dr P's orders, along with 1grain Armour, 30mg Cortef and 1 NAX) but I was just wondering if anyone has any info about the best way to take it, ie should I be splitting the dose or not, how can I tell if I need more or I'm on enough, any side effects I should be looking out for etc? At the moment, I'm taking it in one dose first thing and find that I'm really tired about four or five hours later, but that could also be because I'm on a fairly low dose of Armour. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Jane
Guest guest
I spread my T3 out throughout the day Jane as it leaves the system fairly promptly. It is OK to take with food unlike T4 I believe. If you follow www.drrind.com instructions you can graph your daily average temps and this will tell when if your adrenals are steady or not and that is how you can decide if you need to increase. If your av temps are steady and low, then you are ready for an increase generally speaking. If they are low and unstable you need more adrenal support. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Thanks for your replies, Jane & Sheila. I'm going to try splitting the dose tomorrow to see if I can stay awake in the afternoon and do some productive work. Today hasn't been productive at all! Cheers, Jane
Guest guest
Hi Jane, I take T3 twice daily. Once when I wake up, then again 1 hour after lunch. I would split you dose at least in two as T3 puts quite a lot of strain on your adrenals so it is advisable to spread it out. Some take it 4 times daily, but given you should take it away from food, I find it too much trouble to do this. We all have other things to do! I would adjust your dosage of thyroid hormones according to how you feel and Free T3 levels. bye, paul
