Since I've seen this phrase sprinkled into lots of posts lately, I

thought I'd just mention that I just finished reading the

book " Mindless Eating " by Wansink. You might have read about

it in magazines or online--there have been a lot of articles about Dr

Wansink and his experiments in the Cornell Food & Brand Lab. I

highly recommend reading this book--he shows a lot of ways in which

we eat more than we think we are eating, and how to cut down on what

he calls the " mindless margin " so you can easily reduce your calories

without really missing them. Very practical solutions, and easy,

interesting reading.

The experiements he has done reveal interesting things about how long

we take to eat under different circumstances (like lighting, slow

music vs. fast music playing), how much we eat (for example, if we

eat with one other person, we eat 35% more than when we eat alone;

with four people we eat 75% more food than alone), how we feel about

food, the chef, and other things based on how food is presented, and

other fascinating things. He does experiments in real life

situations, like movie theaters, restaurants, and sports bars. He

has tips for getting family to eat healthier foods, getting kids to

eat vegetables, and simple things you can do to painlessly trim

calories that you don't even realize you are consuming. I think this

book is very helpful for bandsters, and especially those getting

close to goal who are trying to find more ways to lose those last few

pounds.

I don't work for the publisher or the author! I just thought you all

might be interested...I really enjoyed the book, and think it can be

a good resource for bandsters or anyone trying to lose weight.
