Guest guest
LOL...no uproar you are extremely helpful and I appreciate it. I'm glad I asked cause in my opinion experience like your speaks volumes and I've always held the opinion of medical professionals in high regard, especially when it is the opinion of more than one. I'm betting they don't recommend it today for the same reason they didn't recommend when you worked there. Do you think it is because of the talc in most over the counter powders because it's so wildly airborne therefore easier to inhale, or powder in general? Course there is the issue of a babe picking it up and trying to " drink " it so to speak, just like the horror stories we've heard of with powder laundry detergent. So would it be your professional opinion to avoid baby powder all together? I ask because I make it and sell some, not alot , but some and sure dont' want to skirt the edges of unsafety for anybody especially babies. I don't use talc, just cornstarch, arrowroot powder, touch of kaolin and natrasorb. I really am grateful to you for elaborating, it's how we learn. No product even if made with all natural ingredients should be a consideration if there is a potential hazard. I hope I didn't offend you in asking. It's just that when something of such importance comes up it's always good whenever possible to get as much information to support it as possible so we can put it into the " sounds for sure " file instead of the " opinion " file and I thank you for that Alice ~ Owner, Formulator www.MooseCreekBathandBody.com ^-^-^-@@-^-^-^ (..)-- ||---|| ^^ ^^ Re: Baby Powder Powder shouldnt be used on babes --causes pneumonia. Guest guest
Alice, Thank you for understanding. I love learning & " sharing " can sometimes be mistaken as offensive bullishness. Which I would detest from myself or anyone else. The problem is actually mechanical. The particles are inhaled and if conditions are suitable they can be lodged in lung tissue & start an infection. An infection of the lung is commonly known as pneumonia. Pneumonias can be for many reasons. Viral, bacterial, as a result of too much fluid in the body the heart is unable to move..yada, yada. I would not hesitate to use powder on an older infant (past 1 year) if there were no other health issues. Esp asthma. But, you know, we all do for our children what we want and what we think is right for that moment... Sandy Re: Baby Powder Powder shouldnt be used on babes --causes pneumonia. Guest guest
The info just keeps getting better...I'm glad I asked thank you so much. I think most people dislike offensive bullishness and the unfortunate tone that sometimes comes through on email that perhaps isn't intended to be that way, but nonetheless sometimes is taken as such. So in the same regard, I thank you for understanding my query...it's important information that you have provided and I for one take great heed in the input from medical professionals. You have certainly motivated me to seriously consider putting a statement about the use of baby powder, no matter the formula, on babes under one year. Isn't is also typical that diaper rash has a tendancy to rear it's head more often once a baby starts eating different foods??? I know my grandson has been eating solids now at a year and a half for awhile, but has been and still is a breast fed. He's never had diaper rash. Guess the other thing is that people seem to have a tendancy to just want to slather alot of unnecessary stuff on a baby and I can really see the problems that that could cause. Thanks again. Guest guest
Alice, I'm glad you understand. Putting a disclaimer on any product is prolly a good idea. Diaper rash is from stool being in contact with the skin for longer than necessary. After a little number the diaper should be changed immediately. Sometimes, a change in food, medicine, water, illness, teething...etc...will cause a bacterial change in the BM and can be more irritating than usual. This will cause a rash faster than usual. The only stool that really is totally harmless is the stool from a breastfeeding. It is almost totally benign. Babes dont need a lot of goop on their skin. It comes to us perfect & we screw it up. Just gentle soap & water and heaps of love. Have I beat this to death or what??? Sandy Re: Baby Powder Powder shouldnt be used on babes --causes pneumonia. Guest guest
Hi Sandy I wanted to thank you for the advice you gave me on my fill (I got .7 yesterday) and all the AMAZING information you directed me to on this site! I wish I had known some of this stuff a long time ago, but I know it now and it's invaluable! I got a very conservative fill and so far, so good J Thanks again From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of moonshadow.sandy Sent: Sunday, January 18, 2009 12:15 PM Subject: Re: Band Meal ideas / recipes Hi, jill - With good eating/cooking techniques AND a band that is NOT too tight, most foods can be tolerated. Way too many people are way too tight, and this is why the slip and erosion rate is climbing so dramatically. It has more than doubled over the last couple of years. White rice, white pasta, and most breads/bagels are bad news for many people. but wild rice and soy pastas (full of protein nd fiber) are usually ok. A flat tortilla is not a bad choice occasionally. Quinoa is an excellent rice substitute. scdrambled eggs can be dry if not cooked lightly, or without a salsa or cheese sauce. are you possibly too tight? Please review the fill document in the files called " when do i need more fill? " It covers the definition of a good fill vs one too tight and unsafe. I also go over food choices and potential " problem foods' in the Band Guide also in the files. Please ask more if you're having trouble with many foods. We really should not be. Also :-) we emphasize protein way too much. 50 % of the diet needs to be from fiber and the good carbs that include produce, but only about 15% from protein. so " Fiber and protein, fiber and protein! " :-) Sandy > > I'm always searching for meal ideas. Protein and produce, protein and produce....... > I went to this site, and although the food looked good, I can't handle any of that food with my band. She used rice, pasta, bread stuffing, and tortillas and none of these go down well for me. Do some people have less trouble with these foods than others? I tried rice ONCE and swore " never again " . Same with scrambled eggs.... > Just wondering, Jill
