Guest guest
Fish oil (Omega-3) Omega-3 fatty acids, found mainly in fish, can help you loose fat. To get any effect this, you have to be on a low fat diet though. The way it works can in a simplified way be explained as that the omega-3 fatty acids fools the body to think that there is a lot of fat around (although your diet has made sure it isn´t) so the body burns fat instead of feeding on your muscles and/or put itself on 'starvation mode'. By 'starvation mode' I mean that the body minimizes fatburning, lower the metabolism and makes every calorie of spare energy to body fat. Omega 3 also have effect by improving insulin sensitivity. It may also increase the growth hormone levels. A part from this it has positive effects for your health in general, especially if you are on a low fat diet. Anticatabolic, anabolic and endurance improving are words often mentioned in articles about fish oil. << The above was sent to me from another fitness board. I thought it might answer some of the questions about EFA's. ~Laury
Guest guest
I don't take that, and not sure why you would need to if you take a daily multivitamin, which should be all most of us need. But I find that if I take large pills with something warm/hot, then they go through quickly. Or at least quicker. As long as the icky fish oil isn't coming back up, I'd not worry about it. Something like a gelcap isn't going to cause any damage if it is stuck for a bit...same for most pills. dan Thursday, September 9, 2004, 8:34:09 AM, you wrote: A> I started taking Omega 3 (fish oil) several years ago and I hate to A> stop but I noticed now that I got my 3rd fill and seem to have A> restriction when I take the gel cap of fish oil it gets sort of semi A> stuck for a second. Guest guest
Fish Oils also come in liquid flavored lemon and don't taste too bad. Carlson makes the fish oils in liquid. Also you could put it in cottage cheese or yogurt. Udo's Oil's are also a good choice they have the Omegas 3,6,and 9. In liquid form and I put it on my salad with my regular salad dressing every day. Or drain the gel cap put it in some applesauce or something. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for the information. I have googled it and found this site if anyone else wants to have a look: www.minami-nutrition.com/proddownloads/1-en-brochure_MorEPA.pdf (hope it works!) , what sort of dose, do you give? I have been giving Norman the Vega Omega 3 from Nutricentre, but I'm not certain of its purity. However since starting Omega 3 on 7/2/07 I have seen some things which were not there before. Like I was playing with a ball with him and normally when it is out of sight it is out of mind for him and that is the end of the game. Well this time, he made referential gaze back to me, then to the ball and when I asked him to get the ball he looked at it again then back at me (I've never seen this before and he really appeared to be listening to the instruction I was giving him). He also made some shrieking sounds when he has been totally mute for several months. However I don't know how much to give him. Do fatty acids build up in the body - anyone know? Thanks, emily > > > > > Hi,> > > > Can you tell me what brand or source of Omega 3, > > you've found that is> > good (apart from Eye Q which was posted about> > recently).> > > > Also what are Vega supplements like, anyone know if> > they are o.k./good?> > > > cheers,> > > > emily> > > > > > > > > > > ____________________________________________________________________________________> It's here! Guest guest
If it doesn't contain vitamin A (which you can overdose on) then you can give 500mg EPA per day no probs and up it to 1000mg after due consideration. Guest guest
Thanks for that Sally. As it is only a couple of days (4 days) since I started the Omega, it will probably be wise to leave it where it is at the moment (epa 330mg; dha 220 mg). yes? Guest guest
Never heard that suggested and I've just come back from a (fairly boring) talk by . She says the important one is EPA, you can take up to a gram a day of that on your own bat but over that see a doctor first. She didn't mention any age/size relationship -- just the importance of not doubling up on the vitamin A when you double up on the EPA. Low and slow usually best but she didn't say so. xx Sally Scorer wrote: Thanks for that Sally. Guest guest
Sara, I thought what was said was that the one and only study that freaked everybody out where evening primrose oil supplementation was being tried and some seizures occured was trying the oil on a group of patients with schizophrenia who were already on powerful anti- psychotic medication that might have altered their threshold for seizures or have interacted in some way? Check with Equazen - they will have chapter and verse on this. Guest guest
I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong but I’ve bought her book and I’ll check it out and post tomorrow. Sara x Re: Omega 3 Sara, I thought what was said was that the one and only study that freaked everybody out where evening primrose oil supplementation was being tried and some seizures occured was trying the oil on a group of patients with schizophrenia who were already on powerful anti- psychotic medication that might have altered their threshold for seizures or have interacted in some way? Check with Equazen - they will have chapter and verse on this.
