Guest guest
I should add that I just e-mailed Dr. Brownstein to ask him if he knows exactly how they are testing. Guest guest
Thanks, I am awaiting the answer as I have stopped taking Iodoral in anticipation of the iodine urine test and feel terrible!! > > I should add that I just e-mailed Dr. Brownstein to ask him if he knows > exactly how they are testing. > > > > Re: Quest does 24hr. urine Iodine testing?? > > > > No they are different. > > > > Steph >
Guest guest
I guess you must need it huh? Dr. B usually signs on around 10 - 10:30 at night so I probably won't have an answer until then. Guest guest
Dr. Brownstein responded this morning that he did not know what this test was. So it is obviously not like the test done that is created by Optimox. Guest guest
Hello, I'm a newbie and just started taking Lugols in hopes it will stop my hair loss. I'm 59 and post meno, taking estrogen. My hair has been falling out a lot lately. I have had thyroid tests which are O.K. but my a.m. temp is below 97 every day and due to hair falling out I thought I'd try Lugols. Can anyone e-mail Dr. Brownstein? I go to one of his associates, Dr. Nusbaum. I can't get back in until Dec. 19th, at which time he'll probably want labs then I'll be going back in another month or so, so it's a long prcess. He said I could stay at 2 drops am and pm until I see him in Dec. I just started taking 3 drops this a.m. and still felt good. I'm taking Vit C, 3,000 mg. and 200 mcg senenium (which is in my multi). Is this O.K. without the niacin and other things? Thanks, > > I should add that I just e-mailed Dr. Brownstein to ask him if he knows > exactly how they are testing. > > > > Re: Quest does 24hr. urine Iodine testing?? > > > > No they are different. > > > > Steph >
Guest guest
Thanks for the prompt reply. I went back to taking my Iodoral this a.m. and feel better. I'm just going to take this 24 hr. urine for iodine from Quest labs that my doc wants me to and see what the results are. My doctor is usually pretty understanding if the results/tests aren't accurate. I can always have my doc " register " with Doctor's Data (that's where I did my initial iodine loading test) and pay out of pocket for that test later. So many tests, so little time.... Guest guest
You can order it from FFP labs too. www.helpmythryoid.com They do the " official " loading test from Optimox. DDI is similar but they do some different things. I can't remember what it is but I know that Dr. A & Dr B and I talked about this at breakfast. Still needed that additional cup of coffee. LOL! Just call the FFP and tell them you don't have a Dr. to order (or if you can get your Dr to order it that's great) and they will assign you a Nurse Practitioner to " order " it for you. You can also get it from VRP.com but you will not get the consultation which is free from Dr. Flechas. Re: Quest does 24hr. urine Iodine testing?? > Thanks for the prompt reply. Guest guest
Hi, , I spoke with a Quest Phlebotomist who looked up the testing methodology for Urine testing of Iodine. It is " Inductively coupled plasma - mass spectroscopy " and the doctor would have to order their preference in the loading. Would Dr. B be able to compare this with Optimox? It definitly sounds different to me, yet how big of a picture could be seen using this test? Are we comparing apples to oranges like saliva to blood serum? Thanks for your input. Guest guest
Well yes you are - you are comparing blood vs urine. I can ask but the urine test is measuring excretion meaning the amount the body " throws off " because it has enough in the cells. Why do you collect urine for 24 hours if they are looking at plasma? Guest guest
http://www.doctorsdata.com/test_info.asp?id=118. This website has info about DDI's Urine Iodine test. Its a pre and post loading test. The standard is a 24 hr. collection period, 50 mg. loading dose, but the loading iodine dose and hours of collection can be variable. If you click on Sample Report, near the top of the page, you can see the report is called Urinary Halides: Pre and Post Loading. Results and reference ranges are given for Iodine, Bromine, Fluoride, and Creatinine. Method is ICP-MS. At the bottom: Reference ranges are representative of a healthy population under non-challenge or non-loading conditions. This sounds similar to the Quest test. I'm concerned about their reference ranges. Shouldn't results be compared to loading conditions? , does this jar your memory about what Dr. A & Dr. B said about the DDI test? Did they think the Optimox test was superior (course they'd be somewhat predjudiced)? Guest guest
and others, I guess my question, after reading all these posts, is " do I STOP taking Iodoral for 3 days and then take the 50 mgs. Iodoral and start collecting the urine for the Quest labs 24hr. urine test?? I think I understand that they will compare my results to serum iodine levels??? Right??? (BTW Quest doesn't even do serum iodine testing... so I assume they will get those levels from some other source??) Thanks again,
Guest guest
You need to get directions from the lab. That is the only way you will get an accurate reading. I have no idea what they are testing for or how. Sorry! Guest guest
Okay, thanks . Then I will just keep taking my Iodoral and do the urine test because the lab couldn't give me any more info than the basic instructions and my doctor said to take it the same as I did for Doctor's Data... but that doesn't make sense since it isn't the same test. Maybe once we have the results and knowing my iodine dosing, we can make some sense of it all.
Guest guest
You would hope. What are your instructions. The thing I wonder about is if they can handle the level of dosing you have been doing with Iodoral. The average person that takes this test would not have been taking in that much. You stated in previous e-mails I believe that you are instructed to take 3 pills and then begin collecting for 24 hours? I would make sure that I took my morning dose the day before at the same time I take the next (test) pills so that you have 24 hours between them. Who knows how this will go and since we don't know for sure how they are performing the test it is hard to know what to do to prep. I guess you go with the flow and if there is an issue with the results you figure it out from there - especially since the lab doesn't seem to have a clue. Guest guest
B2/B3 is to enhance organification & oxidation of iodine. It also increases energy in some. What is your question? You may have adrenal issues as well. Are you on thyroid medication? What were your last thyroid lab numbers?
