None. I successfully weaned off the last of my dose in June or July.

If you really need iodine, and you take too little (less than 50mg/day), you will really have some probs.

Hi All,I joined yesterday and have been reading posts on and off. It's good to see some familiar folks from other boards. Today I saw the chain about racing heart and thought "BINGO!" I've been typically resistant to thyroid replacement. After nearly 9 years of hypoT, a total of 9 mo on hydrocortisone, the last 2 yrs of pig thyroid and last 6 mos additional T3 + estradiol I finally started to lose a good bit of the ~50 lb I gained. I've lost 30 lbs over the past 15 months.I recently started titrating Lugol's and after about a week at 2 drops I had some hyper symptoms - heart racing and high systolic BP, along with early AM sleep interruptions. And, I should confess, I felt like I wanted to kill someone, which scared the crap out of me. I stopped taking the pig thyroid and haven't had it in 9 days. It didn't make a difference in my mood, so I stopped the T3 after yesterday AM. I feel okay today - pulse is down from 120 to 72 and very mellow with no rage, but am a little scared that I'll be back in good old hypo hell in another week.Is this typical of "finding" your iodine saturation point?Tell me something good,Kiki

Hi Gracia and Everyone, This just doesn't make sense to me....that

some iodine supplementation will give you more problems than doing

nothing. The body is very smart and I believe will adjust to the

increase in iodine (and many other substances) even if it is not

enough to saturate all the tissues.

What do you base this statement on?

Are you saying that people everywhere including Japan where they get

iodine naturally must get an exact right amount or the body will have

problems. The body is very adaptive in order to survive. My dad is 99

and in good health. He has never taken iodine or seaweed. He has

lived his whole life in the goiter belt. His iodine levels must be

very low.

I am taking 2 drops of Lugol's at the moment and plan to have the

loading test done soon.

What kind of problems? I take 26 mg iodoral per day and I am not

experiencing any problems that I know of.

If you do the Iodine Loading Test, be sure to stop it (I think for a

few days) prior to doing the test or the results won't show the

actual levels of iodine in your system.

For me 50 mgs of iodoral was too much! My neck would swell. I had bad

cyst-lke pimples on my neck, chest face and scalp. I dropped to

25mgs/day and I am much much better.

what I said is that if you are very iodine deficient then taking too little iodine will make you feel awful. well it did for me. Obviously 25mg must be good for you. I guess it will take 6 months to get to tissue saturation on 25mg. in the best of all possible worlds.

I have been on 50mg for 10 months now. Definately feel stronger but not able to decrease dose yet.

Just wondering. I tested zero on a spot urine test for iodine or

basically no detectable iodine. I figure I am pretty deficient. I don't

know what 50mg would do for me but I certainly don't feel awful since

starting the iodine at 25mg.

-----> Flechas said he puts breast cancer women on 50-100mgs right

away to quickly flood iodine in thier bodies. They can't afford to

wait to slowly load. But I would guess that on less that's all your

doing is slowly loading.

I'm on 50mgs because I'm choosing that with fibriocystic breasts and

having had a fibroid tumor once. When I had my consult we didn't talk

about what amount he thought I should be on. I just told him why and

he agreed.

Others I know get started on 25mgs/day so it sounds like your fine on

that. I think it will just take longer to load your body.

(Also Jack Kessler of Symbollon said that his orginal research study's

dose for fibrocystic breast women was much higher in order to resolve

it quickly. The FDA said no way so he lowered the dose and said it

might take up to 6 months now to clear the problem. Can't recall his

dosing but Zoe might)

I'm actually thinking of cutting back on it right now to see what

happens. I've been on 50mgs for the past 3 months with no fibro

problems but the constipation still plagues me off and on. I think I

might be better off loading slower and not dealing with that anymore.
