Although the Patch Test has been questioned, I have not come across any research that truly discredits it. You might want to read the variety of opinions on its validity as represented by the sample here: Iodine Patch Test (Skin)

If you yourself have used a patch test on two different occasions when you had good reason to believe that your body had significantly different levels of iodine, we would welcome the addition of your data to our project. If you have not yet taken two patch tests meeting these criteria, you might enjoy reading the first few posts to this database.

On your other point, you seem to be questioning whether iodine can be absorbed through the skin. In my opinion, this absorption has been proven (see Topic: Disappearing Iodine Test by Derry ). Whether Tincture of Iodine is the recommended form for Iodine Painting is, however, another question. I think most would agree that something like Lugol's would be a much better choice than Tincture of Iodine.

If you used the Tincture for the first test, it would be a good idea to use the same thing for your second test so you don't add an extra variable. The tincture is fine for doing the test. Zoe

Should I first buy some Lugol's instead of using the drugstore iodine tincture to do another patch test?

Sorry everyone, But I TRIED to do a search on the group past posts and I must be ignorant because I cant find what I'm looking for. I'm looking for information on doing an iodine patch test. I put a silver dollar size amount of liquid iodine (the old tincture of iodine/iodide) in two places on my body and within 3 hrs or so they were both GONE. Ok..so want to read about what this might reflect, (if I did it right) but cant seem to find it and the old www.iodine4health.com that I thought Zoe was doing comes up different. Maybe I have the wrong addy? Thanks for your help. Michigan

I think the most important thing is to be as consistent as possible in doing your tests. For example, if you are using Iosol, use it in EACH test. Don't change the form of iodine for different tests that you want to compare. We are essentially using each person as their own control, so minor differences in how the patch test are done are not critical as long as you are consistent with your own methods of testing.

The classic test is done with tincture of iodine. So, since you started with that one, that would be good to continue in your future tests.

However, if other people want to conduct their own series of patch tests with Lugol's or something else, I think that data would be useful, too.

I, personally, have done about 10 tests with the tincture at various points along my supplementation experience. Before supplementation, it was 2 - 4 hours. Later, it varied from 6 to 14 hours, seemingly independent of how much iodine I had been supplementing with.

For anyone who is interested in patch test results, check out our current database. Eleven people have reported their results thus far. If there is anyone who has not yet posted their results, please add them.

These are the instructions: "We are trying to discover whether the Patch Test is a useful measure of the level of iodine in the body. Please take a Patch Test at two or more points in time (when you think your Iodine stores in the body might be different). Any form of skin test is acceptable. If you have test results from the Iodine Loading Test (or other iodine test) from the same time as a patch test, please include that too. Thank you."

Patch test

I know it is debateable whether the patch test has any validity. I have just gone up to 50mg of iodoral and had a patch test in the past that did not last longer than a few hours. I used a tincture from drugstore 2.5 % or both iodide and iodine, although this also included ethanol which would evaporate. I still think that if i tested myself every 4 weeks, if there was any validity at all to the test my patch would last longer and longer. I did not do a loading test btw.Not many people posted when asked by Zoe and about results they had with patch test. Has anyone tested themselves this way while on iodoral or lugol and seen any difference?I want to do another patchtest so i can do this experiment properly, but want to make sure i use proper stuff. Do i need iosol or can i do it with lugols, or is my tincture okay to carry on using.ThanksIodine
