I don't know that the CDC would be the place to locate that statistic. There is a map that shows iodine deficient pockets, often related to the low iodine in the soil. South Carolina is called the "Iodine State" because of its high iodine.

There is a theory that high iodine in the soil comes from water having covered the earth many millions of years ago, leaving behind iodine-rich sea plants. The coastal areas are assumed to be the last places for the water to leave. The midwest and other pockets are considered the first to rise above water as the eons unfolded.

There is a statistic about the coastal Japanese getting less breast cancer than the inland Japanese But I don't have it. I'm sure you could find it, tho.
